That's ridiculous.... Picking and choosing "certain" games is impractical ! How 'bout letting this year's opponents pick which games ? They'll all want their game, of course ! :D

No it's not, suspensions against toledo and akron isn't punishment, they don't need the coach to beat those teams.

I wasn't aware that the NCAA does in fact pick and choose... I always hear "the first x games" or the "next x games".

Regarding Toledo and/or Akron, my point is, what if they were actually good, strong teams ?

I say if your going to suspend player/coaches. Do it in the last half of the season when they are deep into their confrence games. This games at the begining of the year are usually padded with lower tier or division teams that offer very little to no compition to division I teams.

Wrong ... You can't CHOOSE which games you miss, you start at the beginning of the season.

OK, lets see, he misses 2 games (so far) um, lets pick the Michigan game (give them a chance) and how about Nebraska (first game with these two) ... how ridiculous would that be ... coach a few games then not one and coach a few more, opps, another good team, Coach, your not gonna coach this week.

Sounds pretty dumb, maybe the NCAA WILL do this.

They were the NEXT games for the teams.
Wrong. Did you even look it up before you posted that??

This was an announcement from Nov. 20, 2010:

The Southeastern Conference has suspended Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl from all team activities for the first eight conference games, beginning Jan. 8 and extending through Feb. 5.

Pearl was able to coach games earlier in the season, before January 8, as well as a game against UConn in Hartford on January 22 which happens to be in that period of time.

Calhoun's suspension doesn't actually start until next season, actually well into the season:

Calhoun will be suspended for the first three conference games next season and can't be present in the arena where the games are played, nor have contact with the coaching staff or athletes during the games.

The Pearl one was just DUMB if you ask me, to hand pick games that he can't coach is just NOT RIGHT.

The NCAA did nothing to Liar Pearl for his first offense. The SEC did, which is why he was suspended for the first eight SEC games, because conference games are all the conference has jurisdiction over. Within 36 hours of the penalty being announced, Liar Pearl was caught again violating the rules and this time the NCAA will act, probably Pearl will be fired by UT, which, being southern, is held to a stricter standard than northern programs.

Liar Tressel, who counting Youngstown State is on his fifth offense, has not yet heard from the NCAA. The token fine and suspension for two practice games is Outlaw State's proposal. The NCAA will outline its own penalty. If there was justice and all schools were treated the same, Outlaw State would be shut down, but, of course, the NCAA treats northern traditional powers differntly from mid-majors or southern schools.

The NCAA needs to regain its crediability by treating Liar Tressel and Outlaw State the same as it would if this was, say, Houston or Arkansas or Georgia Southern. Shut them down.

Bingo! The SEC can't suspend him from non-SEC games.

This was a more serve penalty IMO anyway. As weak as the SEC was this year, being benched from these games were crucial.

Death threats against the guy who tipped off Tressel. Real classy, since he was trying to warn Tressel before it became a problem.
Lawyer says he was trying to warn Tressel - College Football - Rivals.com
The Columbus lawyer who tipped off Ohio State coach Jim Tressel that two of his players were involved in a federal drug trafficking case has received death threats and now says he regrets ever contacting the Buckeyes coach.

Of course now, Tressel's lying to the NCAA (in writing no less) will make things extremely worse.
Tressel signed an NCAA Certificate of Compliance Form—on which indicated he had no knowledge of any possible NCAA violations—on Sept. 13, 2010. He also did not report the information he had received from Cicero when university officials told him on Dec. 9 that players had sold memorabilia to Rife and that the U.S. Attorney was pursuing a case against Rife. On Dec. 16, Tressel was asked if he had been contacted on the memorabilia matter and he replied “that while he received a tip about general rumors pertaining to certain of his players, that information had not been specific, and it pertained to their off-field choices,” the university said in its formal letter to the NCAA regarding Tressel’s violation.
