My local cable has SNY on "basic" analog cable, which I kept, so I can watch the Mets on blown up, stretch-o-vision analog CH 33. However, it's very annoying since the cable offers YES, MSG, SNY and MLB Network, all in HD. I don't have the box or pay for their HD service, but am tempted to dump dish and go back to cable.

I sent an email to ceo at dish and got this response when the blackout first hit.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for taking the time to email your concern over our SNY takedown, with our contract expiring we are not allowed to broadcast this programming until we reach an agreement.

I am hoping this will be resolved shortly and I appreciate your patience and any time you decide to give us to resolve this.

If you have a link to what you read about DISH Network not caring about RSN’s I would appreciate you forwarding that to me. We absolutely realize that sports programming is a huge part of television entertainment and a big deciding factor for many consumers when choosing a provider.

We have seen significant increases in the cost of providing RSN’s which makes each negotiation increasingly more difficult.

I hope that this negotiation resolves quickly and our customers are not affected for too long.

Please let me know if you have any further issues, questions or concerns and please check back with me before you make the decision to disconnect service.

Thank you for all of the business you have given us and hopefully you will continue to use us as your television entertainment provider.

Sincerely,

Brian Martinez
Executive Communications

Canned letter, I would guess.

So Dish can go out and spend 320 million on a dead company but they can't negotiate a deal for SNY or MSG.

Did you send him links to threads on this forum? I also sent an email a few days ago to the ceo@dishnetwork.com address with links to several threads on here filled with people leaving dish over RSN issues. Mine wasn't over SNY being taken down. It was over no full time HD. You definitely got less of a canned letter than I did. Here is the response I got.

Mr. & Mrs. King,

We appreciate your feedback. From my understanding we’re currently working on adding more HD bandwidth which will allow us to broadcast more content in HD.

Thank you,

That place is dead man walking... VOD from ITunes, Amazon, Zune, Netflix, etc. have killed the market. I don't see any value there.

I dropped Dish this past Sunday and now am a Direct TV customer because of the NY sports situation on Dish. Right now I am watching the Devils on MSG in HD. I would have changed much sooner but I was under contract.

Why can't Cable/Satellite evolve into a provider service that lets you select exactly what channels and what service you want, charge you for it, and be done? It would be so nice to say "I want <this> RSN and <this> RSN, both in HD, I want these cable channels, I want local stations from my old home town and local stations from my current home town, plus these additional channels. The cost, who cares? Give me what I want and dump the crap. I'll pay.

Alas, it will never happen, because NO ONE would order the crappy channels that pay to get out there.

I agree. I would love to stop subsidizing sports channel and let the sports nuts find out what the really cost.

The only thing I watched on SNY was some SU basketball. I miss MSG because of the Sabres. Tired of watching them over the net on the computer. Won't drop Dish, but am considering picking up TYW cable here in the Rochester area. Anyone know what the basic teir that has MSG runs per month?

They'd probably keep the base as lots of folks said they'd leave if YES left

D* wanted the same rate that other providers in NY got (which was lower than D* was paying)

I know....but today Dish signed an agreement with FSN North to carry the extra 35 Twins games they wanted a few pennies for.

So SNY & DIsh must be waaaaay off on negotiations

Wow thats a waste cause the twinkies are another team that doesnt know how to play baseball.:D

Hey Cheap Charlie!

THIS is how you get deals done and not drop channels :)

First, I have to agree, unless they completely caved, which to me is very doubtful.

Second, your answer as to what Direct wanted makes me think if they got the same price the other providers were paying (less than what Direct was), then now I would feel more comfortable with that being the going rate, and would say Dish should revisit the issue and pay what all of them are. (I am assuming of course that Direct is now paying a lower rate)

Third, I may have been wrong about SNY and Dish. I thought an agreement might be made by now, feeling SNY needed income more than Dish wanted the channel. Unless it gets resolved in the next few days, it does not appear to be the case.
