Hard Drive Failure?? Is it really?? VIP 722

I got the dreaded Error 311 but it says "in the meantime, you can still watch live tv".
Nope, no live tv. Plug in 1T USB drive, it recognized it, offered to manage device but could not. I know a lot of hard drives are failing, but this one worked fine, until I transfered 4 programs to the USB drive. It transfered them and then was dead.
Is there any way to force it to let you watch live tv until you can get a replacement?

have you tried a hard reset? (pull the power plug for 10 sec)

Yes. Both ways. From the error screen and from the standby screen that shows up after 4 hours. I researched 6 or 7 threads and tried to do what the various posts stated. I am now going to try the :
"Menu-6-3-Info-Right-Left-TV/Video to clearthe NVRAM and the the Menu-6-3-Info-Right-Left-Play-Play-Recall " to see what happens.
It can't get any worse.

So much for the Menu-6-3-Info-Right-Left-TV/Video since my remote does not have a tv/video Button on it.
Right now the system wizard is running and trying to back up settings and timers.
