My Go Around with the Audit Team (Now RESOLVED!)

I would be shocked to learn that they actually had a positive cash flow effect...
I have to state this every time just so no one thinks I agree with these tactics: I do not!

That said, if one thinks this system doesn't work in Dish's favor, you're a fool !! Why would they continue to do it ? Do they get it "wrong" sometimes ? Sure they do.... Funny thing is, we never hear from people who get a 4-receiver system and then give a receiver to their parents, one to their sister, and one to grandma and then come here and complain when the audit catches them.

Yeah, I suspect it is my lack of business acumen at play here. ;)

This is a narrow focus "organization" that seemingly serves one principle function, and that is to evaluate customer usage of the product and if that usage violates the Terms of Service to take appropriate steps to mitigate the loss. There is no downside to eliminating this "organization" except to lose whatever revenue is lost to not catching the cheats... additionally, reasonably one could expect the cheating to increase if there was no publicized method in place to detect ongoing cheating.

I certainly don't need a primer on "overhead" versus "direct" charges - even if I fully retired sixteen years ago at age 53 and now have little to do with the business world except to clip coupons. :coffee

Then in your vast business experience I'm sure you saw departments in large companies that lost the company money...

As I said, I'd love to the see the analysis. I know that we never will (nor should we), but it would be interesting for sure.

Somehow D* gets along just fine without such a group so to say that the cheating would increase if there was no publicized method in place to detect ongoing cheating holds little water in my opinion.

I've got to ask: Are there two kitchens?

I've read all these posts and this is absolutely none of Dish's business. I have AEP and add-ons and am paying over $140 a month and have been paying that for over 6 years. The day that anybody at Dish attempts to abuse me in such a manner, I'll drop them on the spot. I'd provide them with 2 choices which are immediately cease with this nonsense or cancel this account.

Remaining sarcasm redacted.
We (generally) call that "overhead" or a separate category of "G & A.) In this case, as I suggested, I trust a huge profitable company like Dish keeps a tight reign on overhead expenses.

I did not mean to suggest that I had or have "vast business experience" - I tried to add value to the discussion - I just don't require a sarcastic lesson from you. :)

I am willing to bet that the audit team hits legitimate subs way more than they actually catch account stackers.I don't know of any perfect way for them to catch stackers, but the audit team needs to be less like nazi's and more friendly and courteous. There is no reason at all for them to be so disrespectful and down right rude. It's untelling how many good customers they have lost simply because of their demeanor.

How does it work then? Dish bills the month in advance, correct? So if the nazi's cut off your receivers, do you receive a refund of any kind?

good luck getting that money back. Dish doesnt like to send money back (learned that when a relative switched).....so when I cancelled I made sure of sending a partial payment so the final bill was just for a little bit

That cannot be legal. Even if the receivers are cut off for 1-day, the customer should receive a prorated credit. If dish has not been doing this, then it is shocking that some sort of class action has not been taken by now.

So, would the audit team be in the business of checking service address changes? ;)

I assure you it is done all the time. Folks figure when they dont get a bill they have a zero balance and forget about it. Most folks dont realize they pay ahead. They think when the bill comes its for the current month when in fact its for the next month. They cancel and Dish ends up with a little money. It may be $10 but I agree they should send that back to the customer

I suspect they may cover this in their terms of service in cases where a customer's service is cancelled for "breaking the rules". Otherwise, it would literally be an automatic thing to apply a credit to their account. Of course, does Dish really ever "cancel" your service as in you're no longer a customer or do they put you on an "internal" suspension ?

This probably covers it:
No Credits. If your Services are cancelled or disconnected for any reason, you still must pay all outstanding
balances accrued, including without limitation, any applicable fees. Except in certain limited circumstances, charges for
Services, once charged to your account, are non-refundable, and no refunds or credits will be provided in connection with
the cancellation of Services. I
By stating "Except in certain limited circumstances", Dish is able to pro-rate charges for people who simply add or remove programming since they're remaining customers. People who cancel outright or get their service terminated -- no such offer is made.

That "Class" would include all the dishonest people that were stacking their accounts. Gives new meaning to the word, "class." lol

I think this thread has demonstrated that "class" would also include the honest disgruntled people that got the shaft over the Audit team's tactics.

Where's the hate button?

I love to add petrol to the fire, the more the better. :D:D:D

To the OP, don't know if you local paper's (or new outlet) has an Action Line or not. This is something that could be some interest to them.

Oh for chissake. You say you were a Dish customer for a few weeks and that was years ago, but you feel it necessary to repeatedly fuel the fire in threads like this in Dish forums??? (http://www.satelliteguys.us/261380-help-me-decide-switch-dish-not-2.html#post2592980 and http://www.satelliteguys.us/261380-help-me-decide-switch-dish-not-2.html#post2592980 )

This is a perfect example of how large corporations can flex their muscle and bend the rules that smaller companies have to abide by or be driven into oblivion.

Do not take my posting as in any way supporting what the audit team did here.

Actually I heard of someone with ONE receiver getting audited. (I kid you not!)

Just because of the bad publicity alone DISH should shut down this department. What are they gaining by upsetting paying customers?
