Hi, i have a hr24 200 and i see that there is a usb hook up in the back, could i hook up a external hard drive to it and record tv? if so any is there a certain make i should stick with?
thanks

:welcome to Satelliteguys!

The HR series can use an external hard drive, but only with an esata connection. Use the search function to find a list of compatible drives.

Okay i searched the topic and from what i gather is theres alot of talk about the dvr, all i wanna do is grab a western digital external 500 to 1t hard drive hook it up via usb in the back so i cam record the odd show,

The hard drive on the receiver gets disabled when you connect an external esata drive. You can only use one of the drives, either the DVR or the external drive.

Ok I think you're talking about the H24, not the HR24. The HR24 is a DVR that has a 500GB drive built in, which can be upgraded by plugging an eSATA drive into the back of it. The H24 is a receiver only. Yes it has a USB port but that is for use with the AM21 OTA tuner only. It can NOT be used as a DVR at all.

Just to be clear, the usb port won't work with an external hard drive, only the esata port.
