Occasionally, programming comes along that is so expensive and directed at such a narrow, niche market that it deserves to be left off of the programming options or ordered solely as an 'a la carte' option. If the reports about the price tag to cable providers to offer the 'longhorn network' (by ESPN) are accurate, the only way it could be added to current bundled programming packages is at substantial cost to MANY people who have no interest in the programming.

Please DirecTV, keep prices low, by either not offering or charging ONLY those who desire this programming option.

Thanks!

why not do this
throw it in the sports package and for the folks in Texas add it as a RSN. That is what Directv does for "The Mtn" (the Mountain).....mountain states get it included, the rest get it in sports package

I'm from texas not far from austin. I'm a longhorn fan and I agree with you. if I'm gonna have to pay extra for it then I dont want it. I get enough longhorn coverage as is so I can understand your complain if you dont care for it.

I believe that Longhorn Network will be stillborn, or nearly so.

According to reports, ESPN wants a whopping 40 cents per subscriber in Texas, and in Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico, and something less than that elsewhere, and it want it in "expanded basic".

For? One or maybe two college football games (the crap games). Three to five basketball games (the crap games). And "olympic sports". Baseball, women's games, so on. And maybe some HS football.

Good luck with that. First, there are plenty of people in Texas that do not follow UT. Don't follow sports at all, follow the pros, follow what is popular where they came from, or, most importantly, follow one of the other schools. In Oklahoma. "Dear Soonerfan, you will notice your bill is higher now, this is so you can watch Texas girls volleyball. Love, DirecTV". Right.

There just is not enough there to justify this. What is Texas? It is a fine program. Nice school. Wealthy state. Good alumni. I could say the same about at least 40 other schools. DirecTV cannot afford, more important, I cannot afford to carry all of them in any package, and we are starting to run into bandwidth issues as well.

A few Texas fans will trek, once or twice a year, to BW3 to see the team play Rice or McNeese State or whatever.

Stillborn.

I like this idea. But I don't understand why DirecTV treats Big Ten Network as a national network. Anyone gets the channel if they subscribe to an English language package, even if you're not in a Big Ten state. However, if you subscribe to a Spanish language package and want the channel, adding the Sports Pack won't get you the channel. Kind of odd to me. It should be just like The Mtn. in my opinion.

Texas A&M is considering a move to the SEC because of the Longhorn Network. This network which at the time was supposed to be the glue to keep the Big 12 together, could result in its demise.
Report: Texas governor says Texas A&M considering move to SEC - ESPN

Then you must also watch the sec network ...

I would be in favor of the Crimson Tide Network! I actually have added Comcast to my viewing options here so that I can view CSS which has a lot of SEC content and is not available on D*

Is that right ?
I didn't know that ...

So down south and out west they get the Big Ten network without having to pay for it ?
Games as well ?

yes Big 10 is included for everyone in Choice or above with D*
With E* you need to be in a Big 10 state (in most cases...I know Philly area doesnt get it) as a RSN...Sports pack for everyone else
