Big ATSC 3.0 Update

Then you may have no OTA at all. Not sure that's "lucky."

My feeling is that ATSC 1.0 is going to be around for a while. The Nextgen coalition want the FCC to sunset ATSC 1.0 broadcasts by 2028 in major markets but I don't believe the FCC will do that. They are more likely to allow broadcasters to turn off their ATSC 1.0 simulcast at their own discretion. But with the lack of devices that support ATSC 3.0 I don't see many broadcasters doing this. They would be shutting down their audience and I don't see them doing that.

The only audience that really matters to them is those who subscribe to cable providers or via streaming platforms. They go where the money is. Who cares about some people watching OTA in rural areas? They don't pay the bills. If they go to a closed platform, it'll reduce their audience count anyway.

The advertisers care about all of the people that are watching. All viewers are potential customers, not just the ones that are paying to receive the program.
 

Will I need the internet to watch ATSC 3.0 ?
