I have a 4DTV with H2H programs and I started having a problem with the pix breaking up and freezing for a second and then going back to normal. I swapped the LNB first and then found the receiver doing the same thing again with the pix breaking up and freezing. So I checked the alignment and skew and still having the same thing of the pix breaking up and freezing. Sometimes during a commercial but mostly during a program. Very frustrating to watch TV that way. I started to think the power supply in the receiver was going out.

Just for the sake of testing everything, I bypassed the surge protector and plugged the receiver straight into the wall outlet and all problems of the pix breaking up and freezing went away.

:DI wanted to share this info with everyone as I found it strange how the surge protector affected my pix on the receiver. Some of the surge protectors condition the incoming power before sending it to the plug. Some surge protectors have a clamping MOV's and do not filter or condition the power. Those should be replaced every few years or after being hit because there is no way to know if the MOV's are no longer working unless they are cooked and you can smell them. That type of power strip will continue to pass power to your equipment even if the surge is not working.:amen:

Watch out for a hot ground. Both in your wiring and the surge protector. It may not be there always because it may be due other equipment in the house. Surge protectors increasingly are a source of problems for digital equipment especially modems etc.. I don't
know why this trend.

If anybody has a recommendation that is working let us know. I'm using something branded CYBERPOWER and I forget where I bought it, but I have several of them. I usually buy replacements surge equipment every 10 years... should be 7 years.

Panamax. Just didn't say because of the name. I checked the plug with a tester for a hot or open ground and there is none. The Panamax has a whole bunch of diodes, coils, resisters, MOV's, ect....ect...ect. Recently tossed one in the trash after it started lighting up with red indicator saying dangerous voltage. Been watching the receiver for two days and no more trouble. It's just a strange problem. Both the lights on the panamax are green. One says surge protection OK and the other says ground OK.
I put in a no name six outlet box that covers the entire wall plate and gives a light indicating surge protection and another light to show noise filter. Has a screw in the middle to hold it to the wall.
