s10 accurate scan?

I'm not sure anyone other than the coders knows the exact answer to that.

Once upon a time, Openboxes had a super-fast blind scan, but tended to miss narrow transponders (lower SR than 3000 or so.) Then the blind scan was changed to find narrow transponders reliably, but it also got slower -- a LOT slower in some cases. Finally, a third blind scan appeared that got most of its speed back while retaining almost all of its accuracy. At this time was when the Accurate Scan option appeared, which scans at the rate of the previous slow blind scan, but doesn't find anything extra 99.9% of the time. So nobody is sure exactly why it's there. Maybe it would be a little better on weak signals (although most of the time it doesn't seem so to me), but the Blind Scan seems fine almost all of the time on narrow transponders now.

Last night the blindscan did miss a tp on 83w that I picked up later with the coolsat.I went back and added the tp manually to the s10 and scanned in the channel.11968H SR 2403

I tried the 10-22 2011 firmware which is real yucky for standard linear ku lnbs.
I got double the transponders and double the channels. It would scan in the real ones
then pick up phantom tp's like 2ghz lower.Since europe uses universal lnbs, that bug got through.
I went back to using the 9-14 firmware.

I think the difference between blind scan and accurate scan is just the width of the freqeuncy step scan increment . Don't know what the software uses as its default but my old VS Ex and VS Ultra allowed you to select from 5 to 16 increments for each scan attempt, with 5 being very slow but much more accurate. I expect the s10 just simplified this to 2 settings.

I am using the October firmware on my S10 with a universal LNB. However, I set the LNB type to standard and 22 khz=on which forces the lnb into its high frequency range which shortens up the blind scan time. There is no difference in scan quality compared to setting it as a universal and it just saves time as it scan fewer increments. Does not work near as well when set as standard with 22 khz=off.

for better luck recording hd I am using the 9-2 firmware

I don't record as all so I suppose I'm not running into those related issues. Didn't think there was any PVR related changes between the Septemer and October firmware though but it might matter who made your S10 and who issued the software, there seem to be differences.

hardrive

When I bought it I thought I could use a hardrive I already had to record hd,no such luck.
The new hardrive is going to cost me more than the receiver did.

the only numbers on the mainboard are M41320 and HD632SMB v1.0
I scoured the earth for info but it seems nobody else mentions it.
