CE's for the first weekend of December

Well there is the flushing the Guide data and having it start over.

So to flush the guide data you restart the receiver twice with and half and hour?...is that correct?...

Would it make any difference to D/L the update tonight again?...or can that even be done?...

Yep. You can do it quicker. Just make sure the First RBR is completed before you start the Second.

Or you can try your second suggestion, as that should also flush the Guide. At least it use too. I now notice my QuickTune Logos are there right after a new CE is installed. So I'm not so sure anymore.

Ok...I will try one or the other...or both...lol

I had the guide logos after last nights D/L...so...I don't know either...

Well you not the only that have lost 'em. But I think this non repopulating is bug if they're truly trying to store 'em somewhere instead redownloading them every time there is a software update. With HD being more graphic oriented this could become annoying issue for the average non-techie customer.

Oh wow came across this months ago but never had a chance till last night... The new CE HD is Amazing... Thank you all for all the contributions.. (HR24,HR21,H21) All done without any probs.

I download last night..but the new GUide no have logos lol.maybe download again tonight full?

After a successful download on my H24 last night, I tried to force the download tonight in my HR22-100, but couldn't get the download to start. Tried every combination I could think of for pressing 02468. Slowly with long presses, or quickly. Nothing worked. Is there a different procedure for this dvr?

I have an HR22-100, and I had to do the 02468 as soon as the blue lights on the front of the unit came on. So, its before the unit displays anything on screen.

I've been able to do the forced download in the instructions but the last two nights, while trying to get the new GUI release, I've been unable to get the code to work on my receiver. Weird. Oh well, may try again next weekend :)

DO NOT WAIT on the first blue screen!!! Why O why do we have newbies come in and change what we have been instructing as far has the best how-to's from the get-go?

Do a reset. once the front panel lights go off be ready for them to come back on. Once you see the front panel lights come back on, then begin the sequence. DO NOT WAIT on the blue screens..

Probably because this (below) is the sticky post that instructs how to force the download:

How to Download a CE Release

First, you will need to restart your receiver. There are multiple methods to accomplish this goal, but the preferred method is to use the menus.
To restart your receiver, you can do one of the following:
  • Using the remote control, select Menu -> Parental, Fav's, & Setup -> System Setup -> Reset, and then choose Restart Receiver. You will also need to press the DASH (-) key to confirm. This is the safest way to do a reset.
  • If the Menu reset fails, then try a Red Button Reset (RBR). Press the Red Button behind the access card door on the front right-side of the receiver.

After Reseting your receiver, you will start the download:
  1. Once you have restarted your recorder, make sure you can access the receiver. In a few seconds, you will need to type in a special code to start the download process:
  2. When the reset process starts, the LEDs on the front of the receiver will turn off, and the TV will go black.
  3. Once the first blue screen is displayed on the TV, you can start keying in the special code.
  4. Press 0 2 4 6 8. You will need to press the keys slowly and deliberately. An easy way to think of this is zero-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, four-one-thousand, six-one-thousand, eight-one-thousand. Make sure that you ONLY type in the 5 numbers and nothing else.
  5. After a few more seconds, you should see a screen that indicates that the download process has started. If you get a screen that indicates the receiver is booting, and shows step 1 of 2, the download did not start. You may restart the receiver and try the download code again (you can restart by pressing the red reset button under the front-right access card door).
  6. Now, just sit back and relax as the update process will take about 10 minutes to complete. It may appear to "stick" at several points along the download and rebooting afterward. This is normal. Do not reset the receiver unless it is stuck on the same screen/percentage for at least 10 minutes.
  7. Note: Do not restart the system again after the download process is complete.
  8. Remember - this process may take upwards of 15 minutes.

After the download is installed, your receiver will be doing several things after rebooting, including downloading guide data, VOD channels, rebuilding To-Do lists, etc. It is normal for your receiver to appear slugish for a while after installing software. You may also have timers that appear missing, etc. Do not worry, as the receiver rebuilds the data over the next few hours, your timers will come back.

It is considered a best practice to download the software at the end of your viewing day, and not "work-out" the new software until the following morning.

Remember - the software download window is generally Friday & Saturday nights, from 11pm - 2:30am ET. This day/time window is occassionally changed, so always check the notes for the exact window.

that was changed once before I thought to reflect best methods; but there are at least 100 posts saying not to wait. sent PM to admin see about the sticky edit.. but trust the posts saying to NOT WAIT.. that is the most successful method. thanks for pointing out the sticky still says to wait.

I would hope your tirade wasn't directed at me. I entered the code from the time the blue lights showed up to the first couple of screens. I got it to work before but for some reason not this time. No big deal I'll do it again another time.

I have the HR23-700 and uploaded Ox58d both Friday night and Saturday night.

1) The channel icons still do not appear on either upload. I have also rebooted twice.

2) When recording a on-demand show, the reciever is very sluggish when bringing up the guide or moving around the menus when the recording is taking place. The other issue is a major one, the issue is when recording a on-demand show, pressing "list" tries to go to the list screen, tries to load the list and shows what you are watching in the upper left, but this screen gets stuck. There are no keystrokes to get out. I tried ESC, menu, guide, etc, but the screen is stuck (the on-demand is still loading). I can see the ethernet lights on my router working the download. It appears the list screen is waiting for the download to finish. The only way to "unfreeze" the guide is to reset (reboot) the HR23-700. I have tried this twice with the same result.

Your method wont work on the older H/HR2x receivers.
