Is my installation incorrect?

First of all I have to say I only have experience with DirecTV installation, so Dish Network is new to me.

This is my installation I'm doing myself, I was just wondering exactly what's wrong with it? On the point dish screen [which I aligned myself], i was getting a signal of almost 80. Turning on my ViP222k it goes through the very first acquiring signal progress bar and then gets to the guide part, which doesn't complete and I'm just met with a screen of "Complete Signal Loss" or "Partial Signal Loss" This will be a 2 room system (from one receiver) but for now I'm just trying to get a picture in the one room.

This ViP222k receiver was from another system before I got it, also.

Is this a setting on the receiver or is my installation wrong? Thanks.

Your diplexer is backwards and have you run a check switch

Flipped the DPD2, I ran the switch test but it tells me the test has found I have fewer satellites than previously detected, selecting save will result in a loss of channels. The dish this came from the and the one I installed are the same, should I have any less satellites? When I hit save its recommends I never remove satellites from my configuration..

You are not pointed correctly. Save the settings and report what you do have. We should be able to get you pointed closer.

So I saved the settings and restarted, acquired the signal again and downloaded the guide, it did a software update and everything repeated, now though I appear to be getting all of my channels? I can't tell whether I'm missing any or not as they all seem to work, though I don't have the channel list memorized or anything.

I am a little worried about the dish signal though, the signals are pretty weak. I checked the system I took this box and it was 57, after installing this dish and checking the signal it's 58... are the signals supposed to be this low? I couldn't get any better signals after trying for like 45 minutes during the alignment. On DirecTV systems I could get 96 signal in like a minute....

Currently looking at Dish System 500, trans 26, and satellite 129 with a signal hovering around 58

The dish signal meter is weighted. 58 is very good for 129. Go to the point dish screen, is it seeing 110,119 and 129. Most of the HD channels are on 129, but a few are on the other sats.

129 is registering 57 (Locked - EchoStar 129 West)
119 is registering 27 (Locked - EchoStar 119 West)
110 is registering 57 (Wrong Sat - EchoStar 129 West)

What's with 110?

You're not aligned correctly. You are seeing 119 and 129 with the 110 and 119 feeds. You are too low and too far west. Raise the elevation slightly and move back to the east slightly.

So that correlates directly to moving it to the right? I'll try moving it upward and rightward tomorrow.

Also a couple more questions...

Should I have satellite 119 selected when pointing the dish? (Cause it's the center one?)

The dish calculators I'm seeing on the net give me slightly different azimuth/skew settings than on the receivers, and seeing as I went by the receiver which is apparently off, should I use the online numbers instead?

First what are you trying to receive? A dish 500 was designed to receive 110 and 119 satellites primarily SD broadcasting. The satellite 129 was added for HD signals. A dish 1000.2 is used for receiving the 3 Western Arc satellites. If you are trying to get the HD signals you need to replace the dish 500 with a dish 1000.2 then the 119 would be the center signal.

I have the black dish HD 1000.2. I am trying to get everything the dish can receive and align it properly. Apparently I am getting 119 and 129 but not 110.

You are too far west the satellite order in the check switch should read 119, 110, 129. Move dish back east a little and adjust elevation.

So... I realigned it and 110 still reports it's not locked, but a switch test says they're all ok. Signals on 119 and 129 are high 50s and 110 doesn't show anything on the meter but the switch test shows it's ok, plus I seem to have all the channels.

The vip222k outputs to a digital channel right? Will I have to scan digital channels on the secondary TV to get it to show?

Make sure you check several transponders on 110. If you aren't getting any signal on any 110 transponders, then your Dish isn't aligned properly. The Switch Test verifies which LNBs you have , it doesn't mean they are aligned properly. Also, just because all the channels are listed in your guide it doesn't mean you will get all channels if your Dish isn't aligned properly.

What kind of dish do you have? You say 500, with that you're only going to get 2 of the sats.

110 and 119 need to be at least 73 on transponder 11, and 129 needs to be 55+ on 13. Also make sure your skew and elevation are correct. Skew is 132 elevation is 39. You can see these settings looking at the back of your dish.

129 transponder 13 is a spotbeam. Should use 129 tr 17 it is conus.
