W6pea,

Why type of connection are you using on your TV to recvr ?

HDMI I hope, if not at least Component, anything less will make a difference in Picture quality.

Also, theres nothing wrong with a 720p panel.

Also, the Larger the set the worse the picture will look, larger area to fill, same number of pixels.

I really think it sucks. You can't read unless you are about 5 feet away from the TV

There is something wrong with your settings, connections, or the television itself.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the TV and or the connections. I use an HDMI cable. That is less than 6ft. The TV is a Sanyo. We had a 32in Sanyo that went tits up on us, a year or so ago. We had that TV since 1999. Got our moneys worth out of it paid I think $375.00 for it at China Mart aka Wal-Mart:coffee When it quit I called a local TV repair guy he want $950.00 to fix it. I bought this one for $248.95 at W/M. We replaced our CRT TV with a 32in HD TV, it's the only one that would fit in the entertainment center. I just find it a little hard to read the Black HD Guide if I am sitting at the dining room table...if I am sitting in my recliner I can see it pretty good, maybe if I put my glasses on it would be able to see it even better.:censored:

I am getting used to the guide I just don't like changes. Since the DVR rebooted it works perfect. :coffee

Is it a LCD or a plasma? I ask because to me, the PQ on LCDs have always looked better than the plasmas and the PQ on the Sanyo plasmas really look like crap (almost thought I was watching SD.) But hey, your eyes could be completely different than mine and maybe the plasmas look better to you.

A lot of that has to do with the quality of the sets themselves.

Apples to Apples I find Plasmas to look much crisper and the side to side viewing is always much better, doesn't deteriorate on a plasma.

NOW THIS IS JUST F***ING REDICULOS !!

Well I got the mandatory DL last night.

So I got to wake up to a big full screen mess.on my old tube bedroom TV Re: the res. setting & that sh*t.

So you press the button, so you can see what your trying to watch, & sure as Sh*t it changes the res. to 480. So then EVERY F***ING TIME I go to watch 1 of the other HD sets Iv'e got on the same receiver I supposed to re-set the res AGAIN!!! WHAT A F***ING JOKE!

DTV has really F***ED-up this time. How F***ing STUPID!

& Glen, how can you say this....for the life of me, cannot understand why anyone would hate something that is clearer, has a better image, is a lot faster, and is much easier to navigate. There is nothing about the older blue SD GUI that is superior to the newer HD GUI in anyway. To each his (her in this case) own I guess.

I never knew the old guide was or wasn't HD. It isn't any clearer.
Now there are barely NO lines between the channles... SUCKS !
It's not any faster on my HR-23, in fact it's slower. I had to press the same button a # of time to get it to respond.
& it seems black & white has less contrast between them than the old blue & yellow.
Plus the caractors ARE SMALLER. So, how can that be an improvment?
Now I can't even read the tube set unless I put on my glasses.....F***ing LAME!!

And, I don't need "You might like" "My DTV S**T, what is this F***ing TIVO

Now it seems you have to go through an addition step when going to set-up. I install these things every week, that's all I need, more work to get the same results.

All I can say is & hope there's enough flack about this "improvment" that DTV can see somebody F***ed up & give those that don't like this S**t to go back to the old "readable" version.

I know this is going to have a lot of my elder & hard of seeing customers not happy with it & another reason to go else where.

Give this idiot a raise!

Dave

Decodave, your post is really confusing...

Essentially, they probably figure more and more are buying HD sets, but I agree it's dumb of them to impliment something that makes the SD guide inoperable.

confusing...???? Sorry, it all seems pretty much negitive. Explaine please.

Well, since almost only HDTV's are available, you're correct. But that won't help sell DTV for those that don't want to spend more $$$ for another receiver just to watch their old STILL WORKING SDTV.

#1 I don't recall anyone bitching about the old guide, or GUI. So why someone had the bright idea that they had to try to improve it was beyond me. Usually they roll out the new User Interfaces when they roll out new receivers.

#2 I have (4) HR24's in my house and I can tell you there is a deffinite difference in speed, and the new GUI seems very sluggish.

#3 There is a slight improvement in picture quality on my HDTV's, but I was happy with the old GUI and had no complaints.

#4 The GUI on my 32 Inch 3x4 Sony Trinitron TV looks like crap.

Overall, im not happy. For the most part the sluggish responce times on an HR-24 are un-accecptable. Also im irritated that they took out the shortcut to Directv Cinema by pushing the green button in the DVR screen.

Seriously, I think this is another case of someone coming up with this crap so it looks like they are doing their job.

Its just like with Yahoo mail. For the past 6 months they keep on reminding me that I need to upgrade to the latest version of Yahoo mail. I accidently upgrade one of my accounts, and it runs like crap compaired to the old version.

Another example is the software used to run this board. Scott uses Vbulletin software. There used to be a company called Infopop which had a very popluar software called the Ultimate Bulletian Board. It was the best software around at the time and all the sites that had boards used to use their software.

Then one day the company decided to add all this crap to the software, that was susposed to be cutting edge, but really confused alot of people because they changed the layout to something people where not used to.

So eventually most of the websites (Including Dishretailer.com) jumped ship and converted over to Vbulletin, which looks very simmilar to the origional Ultimate Bulletin Board software we where all used to.

Point is that if it aint broke, don't try to improve it or fix it.

Claude,
The Old Gui is the same one that was here from the first day D* went to D* branded recvrs.
Once HD came onto the scene, yes, people were saying why have HD without a SD Gui, why not change it ?

So eventually they did change it.
Why they have the issues with the HD/SD conversion on a SD set, I don't know why they didn't see this and fix it before rolling out.

The new Gui is much sharper and clearer, at least thats what 95% of the people have reported as well as running much faster.

The other 5%, not sure why the same things didn't happen for them.

Why fix or improve something ?

Are you still using your Commodore 64 computer ?

No one complained about SD programming before HD came out. It just did.

Theres nothing wrong with my 2 hr24 2 h24 and h25.

Picture looks no different than before on 32 Emerson 50 samsung 7000 42 lg 32 samsung 60 mitubishi for the good or bad

Guess it effects everyone different...?
