The Boilermaker State (#19)
Today I discovered that sometimes there are signals that the AZ Box Premium Plus will not process. For example today's Amed Forces Bowl is an ESPN broadcast. The AZ Box reads it with a good signal, but the video was black with good audio. For some reason I decided to break out the old Quali TV and it scanned it in with no problms.

Now my question. I decided to hook up the Quali again on a perminate basis. I have the C and Ku LNBs running through four way splitters. I have run one Ku and on C LNB through ports 1 and 2 on a Quali TV DisEqc to the AZ Box. I then ran the other Ku and C LNBs from the splitters through the ports 3 and 4 of a DMSI DisEqc switch to the Quali TV. I now have the recievers running to an LG 65 inch TV through seperate component inputs. Everything is working fine, execpt that I can not have both recievers on at the same time. Both on, they interfere with each other, one off and the other works fine. I don't understand why this is happening since I have them running through different DisEqs switches and and different port on the switches. Does nyone have any ideas how to cure this or is it something I have to live with? This is not a life and death situation, but I would like to know why it's happing. Of course, your valued opinions are always appreciated.

Happy New Year to everybody. :cheer2: :whoo:

Thanks,
Jim

Can you loop one off the other, if they have loop-out ports? I decided I needed to try that when Santa-Stogie sent me his Vantage 1100 box-I only have one c-band and one ku band lnb running off the cable, but as long as I have the Vantage off, my Icon SD box still works just fine, and switches from k to c-band like it always did.

edit: dj, disregard-think I missed the meaning of the whole post. You want to run BOTH at the same time, right?

I don't understand where the Splitter comes in, but...
I you are using a true "splitter", like for an Antenna, you will have problems.
What type of Feed Horn / LNBs are you using? For 2 Receivers to get separate TPs, I would think you need a Multiswitch and Ortho Feed Horns.
Possible to post a Pic of what you have now?

I'm assuming Jim has the old style LNB's that his 922 control polarity.

multiple receivers could get same POLARITY (I think thats what you meant) but it doesnt make sense as to why he can't watch two different receivers at same time. I've hooked up multiple receivers via a splitter and it worked fine.

Jim I assume the 922 is still hooked up? Maybe that is causing some issues when trying to have 3 receivers see the same polarity

just the facts...

I have the C and Ku LNBs running through four way splitters.
This real LNBs on a co-rotor, or something like that?
Or the C and Ku side of a voltage-controlled LNBF (Ck-1, 741, etc?)

I have run one Ku and one C LNB through ports 1 and 2 on a Quali TV DisEqc to the AZ Box.
I then ran the other Ku and C LNBs from the splitters through the ports 3 and 4 of a DMSI DisEqc switch to the Quali TV.
I remember when Iceberg was using a Quali , it had some limitations.
I didn't even recall it could control a diseqc switch.
It will, apparently?
And will it control a 22khz switch, just in case that's useful?

...I can not have both recievers on at the same time.

If you have the real stand-alone LNBs, then I don't see a problem.
If you have a voltage controled LNBF, then that might be the basis of the problem.
Namely, that you can't command both Vert (13volts) and Horiz (18 volts) on the one coax at the same time.

Not enough info for me to point out the problem or solution, but does this post point you to at least identifying the problem?
Once we find it, then we can solve it, I'm sure. - :up

edit:
Oh, I see Iceberg just posted, too.
Good, he's the guy with the most Quali experience.
Now, I'm sure he'll get to the bottom of the problem!

The Q will control a diseqc. One option in setup is Diseqc 1.0 with 4 sats
22k only in a Universal setup

Only thing I can figure is that the diseqc commands are back feeding through the splitters somehow, cancelling the other one out. I have very limited experience with co-rotor type systems, so that may or may not be happening. You can block the voltages, but ya cant block the diseqc commands, I don't think.

I don't miss troubleshooting things like this, since I went all voltage controlled its one less thing to worry about...LOL

Thanks for all of the tips. I have found something out since I made to OP. I have both recievers hooked to the TV in the family room via RCAs, that is working fine. I also have them running to a channel modulater via RCAs to convert to coax for the TVs in the bedrooms and garage. This is where the problem is.

I don't understand where the Splitter comes in, but...
I you are using a true "splitter", like for an Antenna, you will have problems.

I have the C and Ku LNBs running into two four way splitters sending each to the DisEqc switches.

So you are splitting the Diseqc signal too.
Try with both Receivers with same switch setup and wiring.
Say....
Ku - Port 1
C - Port 2

I believe the Splitter needs to go, it would feed any signal back to the other switch / receiver.

Okay......how would I get the signals from each LNB, 1 cable for C and one for Ku to four recievers? I have the C Band LNB going into a four way splitter with one cable going out to the 922 and the other three going to the DisEqc then to the Traxas, Quali TV and the AZ Box. The same set up for the Ku LNB.

The problem with that Lak is the older style LNB's only have one output so a multiswitch wont work that way

True, but a powered multiswitch could act as an amplified buffer, driving 8 outputs independently.
I say 8, 'cause I don't know a 4-output powered multiswitch as cheap as the WNC SWA-48.

It's described in this thread by Pendragon.
No mods required: just use the 18 volt input for the LNB ;)

Just throwing out there.
Could add Splitters between the Multiswitch and LNB?????.....

................................._______ H\
Ku LNB ---------Splitter|.................Multiswitch 22KHz Off\
................................\_______ V/...............................|-------------- Receivers
.................................................................................|-------------- Receivers
.................................................................................|-------------- Receivers
..............................._______ H\.................................|-------------- Receivers
C LNB ---------Splitter|.................Multiswitch 22KHz On../
...............................\_______ V/

But without Dual Output LNBs, you will be stuck with just being able to use 1 Polarity at a time - controlled by 922

SWA-48 multiswitch w/polarotor

Just tested this today with a Pansat 2500 controlling a Chaparral C/Ku polarotor through the SWA-48 multiswitch. It works fine - check the pics.:D
Scanned both Anik F3 Ku & C-bands. The signal meter in that Pansat 2500 always displays Galaxy 19/Ku for some reason. Eh.
Will try adding stbs & a 4DTV to the multiswitch & get back to you.

Edit: Got some strange feedback from the DSR922 through the multiswitch - picture was tearing on the Pansat then flashed to the same frames as the DSR922. Added a DC block between the output port & the 922. Then the polarotor servo stopped working - an unrelated problem. Will try again tomorrow.

Problem solved. Lak, you were on the right track, but it wasn't the inbound splitters, it was the outbound. I had done this before with no problems, but I tried to push my luck this time. I am using RCA Y splitters coming out of the back of the recievers to send the signal to the modulator, to the cable andto the other TVs. You can get by with a single split and have good video and audio, but I tried to do a double split from each reciever. That won't work. I found an RCA A+B switch that I had filed away, stuck it between the AZ Box and the Quali for one split and then went to the single for of the other two recievers. I know that is as clear as mud, but I have good signals to the TVs in the bedrooms, basement and the garage. I bought an HDMI cable for the AZ Box to elimenate the third split from there. I am rather proud of that idea, I used to work at national appliance/electronics store and my former boss (the GM) let me have a HDMI $70.00 cable for $30.00. He also threw in a $30.00 four way RCA A=+B type switch for $15.00. He said the discounts were because I was a good employee and come and see him anytime I needed something. All in all it's been a pretty productive day. Thanks to everyone who chipped in with their 2 cents worth, I appreciate it.
