I lost my locals via antenna after the digital transition so I got the DISH Dish Welcome pack with a 301 Receiver and Dish 500 to get locals and a few other channels and I'm happy so far. However, I want to receive my locals in HD and I called dish a few weeks back and was told that if I upgraded to a 222K receiver I would receive my locals in HD and I did not need to change my actual dish 500 satellite dish (I did this at least 3 times to make sure I did not need to change my dish since it is mounted in an accessible place). I purchased the 222K and hooked it up to an HD TV (SD looks great) but I didn't get any channels in HD. I used HDMI cables and tried a couple of them, so that's not the issue.

I did an online chat with DISH and was told to press the * button on my remote and then reboot the receiver and that would provide me HD locals and any other HD channels being offered on a preview basis. Does this sound correct? I get 110 and 119 when I do a check switch but I am under the impression my locals come from 61.5. I then called tech support and was told I need a Dish 1000.4 even though on the old receiver when I did a check switch on the 301 I have 70-75 percent strength.

Does anyone have straight answer.....there seems to be so much conflicting info online and with Dish support? If I do need a new satellite dish, Which one? Are there other solutions (I do have an extra Dish 500 Sat)

Thanks.

Yes, you do need a new dish. It depends on your local market as to which dish you need. If you post your zip code, I can tell you which you need.

Also, if you send me a PM with your phone number or account number, I can set up an appointment for you to have the proper dish installed.

You would think it wouldn't amaze me anymore, but assuming the information from the poster is correct, how can the phone CSR's be so bad still by not asking the correct questions?

It is correct. It was an online discussion with one of the reps via their web chat. I copied and pasted the chat into a Word document. I don't want to paste it in an open forum for all to see at the moment, but Matt from DIRT is supposed to call me today to solve the problem.

Matt is not at work today. Please send the copy of the chat transcript so we can follow-up with the agent. Matt should be back tomorrow and he will follow-up with you then.

Hi, I am getting the run around on this issue as well. I am in central California, 93614. I have the Welcome Package, the 722k Receiver, and a Dish 500. I was told numerous times this should get me local channels in HD but that does not seem to be the case. I am wondering if I need to upgrade my dish to 1000.2? Thanks

Hi and :welcome to Sat Guys! You need to have access to an HD satellite to be able to view locals in HD. If you press Menu 6-1-3, line "g" will show your satellites. Dish 500 is normally 119 & 110 which will not give you HD programming. If you would like to send your account number or phone number in a PM, I can see what can be done to get your locals in HD.

yes you need a 1000.2 or if your dish 500 has a DPP LNB you can toss up an extra 500 with a single DP lnb and pull the 129 and plug it to the in port on the DPP LNB..
We have maps if you get lost

Depending on where in NY you are you could move the dish 500 to pick up 61.5 & 72.7. They are close enuff to the distant tween 110 & 119 to be able to get them. NYC locals are on 61.5.
