Also, they messed up again and release today's second beta after 7PM PDT - AFE1

Stars lining against all the hype H/J zoo ...

That's one interpretation, I suppose. Unless you know exactly what is in the new Beta releases, there are certainly other interpretations. I choose to think that this is a positive development. They have a production version in place for the new installs. One can only guess what is in the new Beta software, perhaps OTA, perhaps full integration of two Hoppers, or perhaps just other bug fixes that have to be tested before releasing them as production software. The very fact that we are seeing new versions put out there is encouraging to me. It means there is progress even if I don't know exactly what it is.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello.. I am a new member looking for some info on the hopper. My family just got dish network less then a month ago and we are on the america's top 250 plan with 3 211's and the 1000.2 dish at this time. We are looking to upgrade to the hopper after it comes out on the market. We would like to get 3 hoppers and No joeys if that is possible. We have dish networks protection plan and with that protection plan can we avoid a big bill after we rent 3 hoppers from dishnetwork. I remeber talking to a dish network agent about 3 weeks ago and she told me that we should not be billed for getting 3 hoppers the only charge we should get is the charge of the tech coming out to our home and setting up the 3 hoppers is this true..???

Just a few quick questions

1. Will the hopper have wifi.?

2. Will the hopper support video on demand.? I really miss my on demand from comcast

3. Will the hopper have a build in digital clock like the comcast digital boxes had...?

4. Will the hopper be able to dl videos from the dish network with out a internet conection.?

5. Will the 1000.2 dish work with the hopper and all of it features.?

Thank You for your time and help.

You won't be able to get 3 hoppers. You may not even be able to get 2 hoppers at launch.

If you got dish less than a month ago you will not qualify for the cheapest upgrade option. You may e able to talk dish into but I doubt it.

Each hopper should cost you $200 and if you did get any joeys they would be $100. Since you have the protection plan you will only have to pay a $15 tech visit fee.

Don't trust what a CSR on the phone at dish tells you. They seem to be misinformed a lot. Not their fault, dish does not seem to spread the word on rules very well.

three hoppers isn't even a valid configuration. That should have been a red flag right away. It's doubtful any CSR knew anything three weeks ago as they probably weren't even trained on the product.

If you want real information contact a DIRT member on March 15th or later on your upgrade options as that's when the Hopper/Joey will be in their computer system.

My interpretation based on very good grip of FW development process. I can make opinion based on my knowledge and experience looking how FW been develop RIGHT before CES and now - right BEFORE deployment.
Your point of view represent just regular customers who are never been at duties of expertise.

You didn't get the point - production version SCRAPPED, now all h2k getting BETA FW. Perhaps it's not your fault...

Whatever is going on, I'm glad it is before the release date rather than after.

Just wondering, what version software are the showroom activations of the last day getting?

P Smith has ZERO clue of whats going on, in fact I would say at this point hes pulling stuff out of his (well you know).

They didn't drop back to old software, the software is still the same as it was with just a different firmware version, the only thing different are that are making last moment improvements so they can launch this thing on Wednesday. Up until this point all the software has been BETA software, and it will continue being beta software until its released.

I don't know why P Smith is trying to cause a panic especially when he has zero clue of whats really happening.

Scott, do the commericals for dish/hopper start on Wednesday or will there be anything shown before?

How do we go about contacting a DIRT member? Will they be able to place the order for us starting on the 15th?

cool thank you for your help and info guys and gals. My family and I have a few things to talk about now and see what we can do about this

You really need to sit back for a month or two and watch what happens. Your recent installation is unfortunate, that will count against you I'm sure. You may be best off to wait a year or more, and watch what offers might apply to you. They'll change. No sense is putting out a lot of money now that you might not have to if you just waited.

And yes, there is no such thing as a 3 Hopper installation, and for good reasons there won't likely ever be, in the foreseeable future.

Hopper accounts will allow the max of 6 tuners. VIP accounts will have the max of 6 boxes .

Its safe to say the hopper accounts will never have more then 2 hoppers. if you need more then 2 hoppers dish will be more then happy to charge you twice the price to give you a second account with no discounts and each will be on its own sub net not able to see the other account.

OK, let's take a little look at firmware and beta and software development version numbering schemes.

There aren't any. Or more precisely, there are way too many.

Granted, it was decades ago, but when I was in software development for the Navy, we went thru three different numbering scheme in 2 years. Plus, all the old LASS programmers kept their old system (being phased out anyway). Later, while taking graduate courses in what we then called Computer Science, we learned each company had their own way of doing things, and sometimes different numbering schemes were used on different projects. All this applied to in house development and testing. The only almost universal convention was that the first release was usually ver 1.0. Just for fun, read up on dBase II - there was no dBase I (it was Vulcan). Some companies played games and gave higher numbers on their first release, hoping to mislead buyers into thinking it was a mature product with several releases behind it. The years may pass, but the concepts remain.

Now, does Echostar/Dish have a consistent numbering scheme, that people here know and understand? And sticks to it? And that they aren't running two or more developmental versions, and trying each in the field in turn?

We don't know. And I'm not buying the confidence of someone who is often quite useful, but has been shown to be wrong on occasion.

We will know how well developed the product is once we have reports from folks with installs, including retailers who may get to test & report early. But its the version on the streets on March 15 that counts. Good, bad or indifferent, we will know in about a week.

While I am guessing no official word, hopefully two hopper systems will be allowed. I would think one may want a second hopper in a man cave or movie type room to go with the main room. I see joeys as a good "bedroom" type receiver

Exactly, this is an unreleased product and at the moment everything is beta and will be beta until the product is released...

Some folks dont seem to get that. :)

You could put the two hoppers in the garage for that matter and use Joeys at all TV locations. They all access the same material.
