Answers to your Hopper Questions

Is the phone jack on the hopper not operational yet, when I run the connection test it showes Broadband ok but phone test gives error
but I have hooked a phone to the cable going in the hopper and it has a dial tone.
I would like for the caller id to work
and I need to know if I need to call dish for a replacement hopper.

My phone jack and caller id works on my hopper and 3 joeys. It is worth up-grading from 721 just for the hd picture on all 4 televsions. I was second install in my area. It went reasonably well once installer linked joeys ONE AT A TIME. It was still a 5 hour install. My only kink so far is trying to set up favorites list. Is any one else having this issue? Maybe a software update is needed or it is a feature to be coming soon. /

Has anyone tried connecting more than one EHD to the hopper's 3 USB ports. Can hopper and its conneted Joeys play programs from all connected EHDs?

Anyone got DLNA (home media) working on the hopper yet? I am using Serviio for DLNA broadcasting and my LG BD670 picks up my media files no problem. But the Hopper doesn't see any DLNA devices. I've also used Device Spy to look for DLNA or uPNP devices and it does not list the Hopper at all.

One other question. Has anyone testing connecting a Joey to the Internet and have the Hopper use the connection for On Demand? My installer told me that if you plug in ethernet to the Joey that it will connect the Hopper. I see the Joey on the network but the Hopper (and connected Joey) cannot access the On Demand offerings. But you can see there is a network connection under the settings on the Hopper/Joey.

Yes they can. You can change it by going into the menu.

My installer had an issue where he couldn't pair one of the Joey's to a specific hopper. That Joey automatically paired with the first Hopper, but wouldn't pair with the second Hopper. So he added a splitter to one of the host nodes and put both hoppers on it. Is there a way to work around this issue of connecting a joey to a specific hopper?

mine is working, lol, actually the only person who has called was a customer service survey from...Dish! :D

Is there any way to mirror the output of a Joey to 2 different tv's? I have a SD tv in a spare room/ office that only gets used sparingly. Probably only gets used less than 30 minutes every week or two. I currently have the tv2 output from a 622 on a splitter. One going to my daughters room and split to this spare room. I just hate to pay an extra $7 month for another Joey when it's seldom used.

You would need to get and RF modulator to have composite out of the Joey converted to RF.

You can go to the Joey, press the blue shortcut button, go to whole-home and then select the Hopper you want it connected to.

Windows media player shared my stuff on the nas and laptop just fine other than format issues. I was also able to use imediashare to send stuff from my smartphone again most files were "?" due to file format.

Tonight would be a good night to test the PTAT overrun functionality on CBS due to basketball potentially running late. Can someone who has PTAT turned on save Amazing Race to their user portion of the DVR after the PTAT block is over? There were questions whether the saving of a title that started/ended late would pick up the correct start/stop times.

I have a timer set up for Amazing race even though PTAT is on if that helps.

Update:
Yes when I called Dish tech , they send some kind of signal to my receiver and it fixed the problem
now the phone test says ok and caller Id works on the Hopper and the 2 Joeys.

Does anyone know how to disable the banner screen that comes up when you press tv button on your remote , to remind you to press sat button on the hopper and Joeys ?

Update:
Got a pm from Dirt member Matt on finding this setting
menu>settings>diagnostics>mode reminder
Thanks Matt

The connection of a Joey to the Internet has not been implemented yet. Future (maybe) coming attraction. Right now, connect the Hopper to the Internet or use HIC.

Menu, settings, diagnostics, mode reminder. Then set to off, save.

Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys

I'm betting that the shows will be recorded, but won't show the proper title or guide info for what is recorded.

Exactly what happened. However, I set a Timer for Amazing Race with a 60 minute buffer, and got the whole thing saved to my partition of the HDD. The episode shows up on both the PTAT partition and my partition, and is the full 120 minutes on both, so it's simply a pointer to the same file.

VERY interesting though that the PTAT partition also has The Good Wife listed, which in my case would have been the second hour of Amazing Race. So what it seems to have done is used the same data stream from PTAT and create two different files for me: one of 120 minutes for my Timer of the Amazing Race, the using that same info, it created a 60 minute PTAT program for The Good Wife.

If you don't set a timer for a show, and it is delayed, can you do a "save", telling it to buffer the end of the program by x minutes?

Good idea, but no. It simply marks that program and makes it available in your HDD partition. If you want to buffer a program, you have to do it before it airs and set a timer for it.
