PTAT Bugs, Problems, Dislikes ...

First post here...

I have a similar problem. It surfaced Saturday night while setting up timers on our new dual hopper/joey configuration. Once I set the timer for Formula 1, I lost sat 129 (and lots of HD). I removed the timer and HD came back. Sunday morning, 129 was gone, again. I unplugged/replugged, did the switch reset thing with no luck. I called Dish, we did the same things and it came back. The tech noted in the ticket that if it happened again, we'd have a service call. It happened again when I setup PTAT on the same Hopper. Tech is coming this afternoon. Because PTAT can't be disabled once the recordings have started, we never got 129 back. I checked signals and 129 is good on tuners 2 and 3, and locks on 1, but never gets the name. So, my guess is that the Hopper is bad. I guess I'll find out this afternoon.

Scott, i had a bad r6 connector that caused a tuner to not function. The install tech pulled his hair out for hours because the hopper acted differently than all other dvr's in his 6 yrs. Check each connection for bent or damaged center wires.

Will do. Hopefully it's something like that. I do hope the tech brings a different Hopper, though.

Not Just Dish, but they have to come up with a way to get the full recordings of delayed broadcasts. Just keep in mind if that is possible, you might have to decide what recorded when it goes over if you have other recordings set. You would have to be prepared to lose one or the other at a time you might not be thinking of an overlap.
I have permanently set-up a two hour recording time period for "The Good Wife" for my wife, because it so often is delayed by sports. That works thanks to the OTA tuner.

Ehhh, just cut the games short.

If they can't finish their games on schedule it's not my concern.... just cut them off.

;-P

(Not being a sports person it always bugs me when games screw things up.... and why the heck do they always schedule baseball games at rush hour so it takes me an extra hour to get home? How about some respect for the working people who aren't just able to flit off to an overpriced arena to pay $6 for a $0.20 hot dog? They get money from ticket sales.. where's my cut for the delay?)

I am getting a 2Hopper/2Joey install on the 3rd. So I can not try this yet, but maybe someone could see what happens in this case. Say one has the PTAT set, Sunday shows are running late, but you also have CSI Miami set in the Guide too (so it transfers to your DVR folder) If I set the timer to record an hour longer in the Guide for CSI Miami, will it take over and record the extra time?

I found that 30 minutes extra worked for CSI: Miami for the last year - I think they skip something if sports would make it later. If you do set a 1:30 timer, DON'T accidently save the PTAT recording, it will overwrite the longer one - don't ask me how I know.

It's not a matter of saving the PTA recording. It's that when PTA stops your timer recording stops instead of recording for the 60 or 90 minutes you set it to go over.

Yep. The PTAT stuff needs to take the overrun on CBS into account.

it was about 18 minutes last night.

Dish: You listening?

I thought it was supposed to all along??
I don't remember what thread this was originally discussed in but several of us figured that since the sporting event was BEFORE the PTA block that the block would not be extended. We were RIGHT.

I wanna know where you can buy a hot dog for 20 cents?

The whole issue is not with Dish, it's with the network. PTAT records the NETWORK, the shows scheduled really are of no issue to the Hard Drive as the Network established the schedule. If the NETWORK changes the schedule, we are out of luck. I run into this all the time recording a NASCAR race and it runs long because of weather, big crash cleanup, etc.

If you want to make sure you get something that "might" run over, just record the shows after your scheduled time. I never miss once I started doing that.

LOL... coupons! Oscar Myer Hot Dogs were on sale last summer for $1.49.... had a .50 coupon that doubled to $1... $0.49 for 10 dogs ($.05 each.) Buns for $1/8 pack... counting only the 8 complete dogs you can make they are $.19 each.. ;-P The extra penny covers the mustard and ketchup... (also with coupons... usually I only pay tax.)

Sorry you asked? LOL......

If it's going to require a sporting event to be scheduled to occur within the PT block for the extended time to kick in, then it sounds like the only time it will work is when events like the Final Four (CBS), Sunday Night Football (NBC), and the World Series (FOX) are on...

Yes, we were right, and we mentioned that fact, but we still got the response, "don't worry, it'll be extended." Also, many of us suspected that when you would go to "save" an event from PTAT to your user space, that if the programming was delayed, the event you save would be cut off as well. And we were right again.

I thought PTAT was suppose to keep shows for 8 days?

I was looking through my PTAT folders, i have them set to show by Network, and noticed that everything from last Wednesday was gone? I had my install on Saturday the 18th and PTAT started recording on Sunday. I was just curious if anyone else's PTAT deleted shows earlier too?

My install was in the AM of Sunday the 18th and my PTAT folder contains everything since that night.
