other than getting more HD channels which only time will tell, the rest is 110% pure speculation and likely bunk to boot.

Jimbo, your not reading posts very well for the intended meanings; I am talking about the reasons, not the bits and pieces... I already knew, like eveyone else, that the NFL ST ONLY price was lowered for next year; but not the whole ST package thanks to an official announcement; However, a person I know that used to work for DirecTV told me mid way through last season that they were going to divide up the ST packaging and the price points, she just did not know how or how much. In fact, I remember a handfull of people online rumoring it as well right toward the last 1/3 of the season; so it was already leaking out BUT my POINT was/is that DirecTV has never, and likely will never make business moves or descisons based solely on customer opinions; they are almost always done on a long drawn-out and very time-scheduled plan. The way the posted story was written so matter of fact; is likely 99.999% BUNK; something to feed to their readers!! Rah - rah, we did it, we win, we made them change = CRAPOLA.

This is great news. I didn't even know E! was in HD right now?

I don't see how you missed the long thread about it ;)

And you guys do realize who wrote the article right?

Oh yeah, he hasn't been right ever unless he steals the info from us. ;)

this is no direct slam at anyone; just an observation since its happened a few times here recently; but if someone miss this news of; or didn't know when a channel went live in HD; then you obviously weren't missing anything as you weren't really watching that channle like you thought.

actually, if you follow dbstalks you would have known this at the start of the new year according to satelliteracer.

“[*** The two policy decisions prompted some subscribers to leave, adding to DIRECTV's churn rate. Although DIRECTV was still able to add 662,000 net subscribers in 2011, there's little doubt that the number would have been higher if HD enthusiasts and football fans were better treated.

Now, that said, there's evidence that DIRECTV is trying to make amends with these two critical groups.

In the past month, DIRECTV has added TruTV HD and E! Entertainment in high-def and there's rumblings that more HD channels will be added in the coming weeks. After all-but ignoring the HD audience for two years, DIRECTV suddenly seems extra motivated to make it happy. ***]”

I don’t understand why people here are so suspicious and negative toward the author and his article. The author, Swanni, has always been a straight shooter speaking for the rights of subscribers. Unlike the people of this forum most DTV subscribers feel exactly the same as the author and the article he has presented. It almost seems people here are all DTV apologists or paid schills.

TV Prediction is reporting that DTV has finally caved in to customer’s demands for more HD channels. There will be more HD channels coming in the next few weeks to avoid exodus of loyal customers.

DIRECTV to Subs: We Need You Now!
To prevent a mass exodus of people?

I don't that many people will leave over a few HD channels

First, most subs to not even subscribe to HD to begin with
Second, of those HD channels still left, they are at the lower end of the ratings scale so they are not affecting too many HD subs.
Third, DirecTV has never had a mass exodus so how will this be any different
Fourth, DirecTV still offers many things that others do not

People EVERYWHERE are suspicious of Swanni. He has a severe dislike for Directv which apparently goes back to when a relative of his had a bad experience with them. He bad mouths them every chance he gets. His information is usually culled from Satelliteguys or dbstalk. He virtually never gets the "scoop" on his own. He is no journalist in my book!

when you see words and phrases like my guess, seems, indicators are, rumblings of, etc; watch out cause you already know you are not dealing with someone in the know or that has any credibility or skill as a journalist; not that journalists have any credibility these days. likely telling you something everyone else already knows OR the scoop is 110% conjecture with absolutely nothing of substance or fact to back it up; hell, we all have a 50/50 shot of being right on the basic outcome of this nature, but no one know the details of why when dealing with huge corporations; claiming you do is total hogwash and a pure act of puffery..

I would think its safe to say that DIRECTV will be adding more channels... don't know when but it will happen.

Almost like saying there is a chance of darkness tonight. :)

No matter when they add it I believe that more HD is GOOD HD. :) But no matter how many HD channels they add it will not be good enough as we will always want MORE!

It’s obvious that you have not examined DTV’s latest 10-K.

Directv lost 3.654M subs (disconnections) during 2011 (5.6% losses from previous year) while gained 4.316M subs (additions) during 2011 (4.7% gains from previous year). The trend in losses are surpassing any gains prcentage-wise and at this rate DTV’s subscribers are heading towards what-you-might-called an exodus.

IMHO

Exactly!!! It is a very safe bet..

and how exactly do you know the root cause for those losses? Hell, I can claim that 95% of those are do to job loss leading to cut back unneeded services in the home.. How can you dispute that?

Both cable and DISH have also lost subs in many places and added added a few... The fact is you don't know, I don't know and Swanni does't know. We just don't open our yaps claiming to be in the know and post it on the net! Geez

anywho... its not worth arguing over; if you place faith in whatever or everything Swanni says; then more power to ya. no need getting all bent on those of us that have read too many of his many, many hated, BS filled rants and prognosticating failures time and time again, and choose not to. I busted out on his "reporting style" and the lack of its quality.. and I am sorry if you took offence to my critique of his ability and story
