DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

if it is a season pass, this is cool:

iTunes - TV Shows - Breaking Bad, Season 5

Interesting. I have to assume that for $13.99, the price is for the first eight episodes. Making it cheaper than buying it through Amazon. Hmm, might be the way to go. Especially since my HTPC does have iTunes installed. Well, I do have nearly three weeks to see if AMC will be available on Dish or not. It sure would suck to buy a season pass only to have AMC back a few weeks later.

No, actually what you were talking about (whether you meant it or not) was advertisers picking their shows/networks based on target audiences (demos). That's why you might see a Depends commercial during 'Murder She Wrote' (your example). And, it doesn't matter how many subscribers a network has, if no one's watching, no one will see the ad.

That being said, assuming AMC goes off and stays off Dish, will advertisers who purchased Mad Men want a discount when the new season comes around? Sure.
Will the discount they get (if they get one) have a major impact on AMC? I don't think so.

You are reading my quote completely wrong, and by the way, don't put words in my mouth. Potential viewers are what advertisers want to know. The networks are the ones who pray on rates. Advertisers want to know exactly who is viewing what. Also, why do you think these networks are attacking Auto Hop? Advertisers won't pay squat if they know potential viewership will go down. How can they tell that people won't want to watch the ads? Perhaps even DVR the shows are watch them live? Potential viewership is a key ingredient, being affective is another talking point for another discussion.

AT&T's U-Verse May Drop AMC Before Mad Men Premiere :: TV :: News :: Paste

What is that I smell...... it's the sweet smell of vindication that this is an AMC issue, not Dish, not VOOM........ Perhaps Uverse will blink, but it still shows exactly what some of us have posted, lets wait till contracts for other carriers come up and see. Seems At&t is saying just about what Dish is about the product.

"While AT&T representatives claim “Rainbow channels are among the least-watched and most overpriced per viewer,” AMC says U-Verse is merely looking out for “corporate interests” and cheating the company’s 2.3 million subscribers."

(And yes, partly you contribute that to postulating....)

Edit - Not fair to delete so I won't, it was pointed out this is an older article, not a current one. I am glad other carriers at least do challenge them and I didn't know AMC has had this problem before, so still at least instructive.

SECOND EDIT - now I see why this came up as new news........ Apparently At&T IS threatening not to renew....

So can AMC afford to lose both carriers?

Exactly what I thought would happen. If one company like DISH goes up against AMC and Cablevision and says NO, then other companies like ATT will say NO to them as well. Conversely if all companies agree to the price hikes ,then everyone will get them. The more companies that say NO to them , the less they will be able to charge for their channel. And the more companies that drop them in response to their price hikes , the more it will hurt AMC/Cablevision. They will eventually have to agree to less, or they will not have many video avenues for their channels to be viewed ,which means less they can charge for advertisers to show their commercials. All in all a bad outcome for Cablevison and their suite of channels. Now if all companies would do this and work together and say NO to price hikes by these companies like Cablevision, they could suppress the prices we all pay for these and other channels. Maybe they should have a tv company summit and discuss working together to do just that. Keep all our prices down for programming packs.

Tampa

That article is from 2010

I meant to say I'm NOT going into politics about it. BTW, I had a health scare earlier this afternoon. I had a dizzy spell after I slept for around 12 hours and took my medicine when I got up before that with diet soda. After I got up around almost 1pm, I went to the bathroom, had a dizzy spell, tumbling, and almost lost my balance. Plus, I had trouble shutting off the sink after I washed my hands. I went to sit down on the couch in the living room. My mom and cousin thought I had diabetes, but also thought my sugar was low. So my blood pressure was 108 over 70, pulse was 95. I had a Hershey bar and regular soda after it and I relaxed more minutes later.

To tell you the truth folks, I'll never have another dizzy spell again. When I had it, I felt like I was close to death. :(

Since my mother closed her Tire Shop last week due to her Lupus and my stepfather trying to look for a job despite the bad economy. Then my brother vomited last night, and today I had a dizzy spell. I felt like bad luck came into my family. BTW, Pray for me and my family.

I'm trying to recover you dig! :)

True its an old article...but if u go to keepamc.com or whatever the adress is...its right there. Dish or att customers. So dish started somethin!!! Good for them. I have direct at work....dish app on phone. I had amc going on both. First dish showed fx commercials while direct showed some care credit commercial. Then a siren went off on the phones feed (dish) saying switch to direct tv to not loose amc. On direct tv....there was no siren. It was a car insurance commercial. Then crawl on bottom of screen on dish...non on direct. Funny stuff

Oh I agree with you totally. I just noticed the article date and know the responses that will invoke.

lol - I was grateful you pointed that out,had me worried till I dug more into it. I knew there had to be a reason that came up as new. The article isn't, but it's Deja Vu all over again...... :)

MVPDs can't get together and have a summit to strategize how they will keep prices down by "working together". That's collusion and illegal.
