Hopper S213 Feedback and Issues

Since the software updates went in on June 28th for my Hopper and Joeys they won't stay connected/linked. The Hoppers are working fine but all 3 of my Joeys keep unlinking. I have S213 in both Hoppers and S265 in all 3 Joeys. I have COAX and Ethernet Internet on one Hopper and COAX and Wireless Internet on the other Hopper. COAX only on all Joeys. I have done at least a dozen resets. Trying a hard reset on both Hoppers right now. Everything is working for now so we will see how long that lasts. I have no other issues other the the linking between the Hoppers and Joeys. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

I dont have any suggestions for you Curt but i have similar problem....

My hopper keeps dropping internet connection. It only does it when i look through BB@H. I will be looking around to see what is on and then i will get "you have to be connected to the internet" in order to use this feature. I have them all hard wired in. no wireless. I end having to do a soft reset in order for it to recognize my connection. It did this yesterday. I checked my router to see if my connection dropped and it did not......i dont know whats going on.

Another issue i keep seeing is random pixelation and sound drops during the pixelation on my recordings from from the hopper. It starts out as a frozen screen then starts from the sides pixelating and then catchs back up with current content. I can rewind it and it does it again in same spot.........weird!!

I've got the same setup as yours and mine works OK. I've got a Linksys WRT320n router running DD-WRT firmware and have 1 Hopper (no linked Joeys) directly connected to the router. The other Hopper has 2 linked Joeys and is wirelessly connected using a Linksys WGA600n adapter. Both Hoppers and Joeys show as active clients with DHCP assigned IP addresses and I have no problems viewing live or recorded programs or checking On Demand programs.

Maybe we should start accumulating a list of what is and isn't working with specific router/adapter combos.

For the people that haven't read this thread and have multiple devices connected to the network experiencing issues, connect ONLY ONE hopper to the network and disconnect the other ethernet / wireless drops for all of the other devices. Then after a reset of all the devices it should work. S213 setup the Hopper as a MoCA bridge so you only need one direct connect to your network. All of the other devices will use MoCA for internet. If you have too many devices hooked up you will create bridging loops which cause nothing but problems.

Just to add 1 more from this morning:

4. Tryed to turn the hopper on this morning and no response. Red button fixes the issue.

5. Joey goes to black screen every few seconds. (This one has hubby very unhappy because it is his garage TV!) Haven't been able to fix this problem. Have tried resetting hoppers and joeys...no help.

A few days ago I disconnected the Ethernet line from the Joey all my drops stopped...until last night. I only have one Hopper and one Joey, Hopper is the only one now connected to my network via Ethernet. Joey now only coaxial and has been flawless since disconnecting the Ethernet but last night while viewing a recorded program saved to EHD, Joey lost the link again and dropped. A reset connection brought it back....for about five minutes then again it dropped. A Reset Network and then reset connection finally brought it back and was fine for the next hour until I shut it off. I only am mentioning this because there may still be issues even when connected properly.

I only have my Hopper connected to the network. None of my Joeys have been or are connected to the network.

Very interesting!! My 2H/2J system was working great with both Hoppers internet connected and both Joeys coax connected. All 4 boxes were clients on my wireless network with DHCP assigned IP addresses in the 192.168 range. Everything worked OK and I got a green "broadband connected" icon on all 4 boxes.

Today I decided to try connecting only 1 Hopper. I powered down everything and powered up the router, the Hopper wired to the router, the other Hopper and the 2 Joeys in that order. Both Joeys are linked to the non-connected Hopper. After finishing only the Hopper connected to the router has a DHCP assigned IP address and shows a broadband connection. The other 3 boxes have no broadband connection BUT all 4 boxes can download shows from BB@Home and all MOCA functions work perfectly.

I'd like to see E* remove the No Broadband Connection warning when this configuration is used. It's the reason I was keeping both Hoppers connected to the router.

Where do you find the recordings of your other hopper?

I have 2 hoppers and 2 joeys. Both hoppers have s213 software. Not sure about the Joeys. I have 1 hopper directly connected to my network by Cat5 and the other by Dish wireless. I have looked everywhere but I don't see a way to access the 2nd hoppers recordings. What am I missing. "John"

try disconnecting the wireless on the one hopper, leaving the other connected directly to your router. reboot everything and that might take care of it. i had to disconnect one hopper then they worked the next day after the nightly reboots. hope it works for you.

Hoppers have s213.
I previously reported that one of my Hoppers can't provide closed captioning while watching something recorded on the other Hopper.
It's worse than that. That Hopper can't even provide closed captioning from live TV or its own recordings.

I am having the exact same issues on both of my hoppers.

Pausing, skip fwd, DVR, is taking at least 5 seconds to respond. I'm not rebooting because I have stuff recording.

I'm having a little issue when viewing recordings between hoppers, if I open a folder on the remote hopper then try to back out of it takes me back to the current hopper continent yet has the remote hoper name listed where you choose which dvr to look at. Haven't tried it on a Joey to see if it's replicated yet

Sent from my iPad3 using SatelliteGuys

I noticed on my PTAT recordings that AutoHop is hit or miss lately. On older recordings it is there 24 hours after recording but not lately.

I have 2 Hoppers and one of them is screwed up. This is the forth day in a row that I have to hit the red reset button for it to come back on. I hit the power on button on the remote and the receiver and it does nothing. I unplugged the Hopper and left it unplugged for awhile but the next day it will be frozen and I have to reboot it. My hopper in the living room is perfect! What gives???

Tonight I tried to record a movie. Instead, my Hopper recorded a different movie while claiming it was recording the intended movie. To add further injury, it refused to stop recording said incorrect movie so that I might reclaim my tuner and manually correct the issue.

What follows is a two minute video of me fighting with my Hopper's insanity:

Dish Hopper, hopping - YouTube

For those that would rather take my word for it: My Hopper is at once certain it is recording the intended movie but on the other hand it is aware that it is recording something entirely different. Either way, it is thoroughly unwilling to stop said erroneous recording. As a further note (and this does not appear in the video) I now have a full copy of the wrong movie in my DVR folder under the title of the intended movie's name. Pulling up the info screen in the folder displays the intended movie's information, play it and you get not just the wrong movie but press info again and you get the wrong movie's information. At least it's consistent in a way....

On that note, for the third day in a row it's time for a "red button reset." :-/

Is anyone else's Hopper updating at 1:32 a.m. now? for the last couple nights, might have been since S213 arrived, it has rebooted at that time instead of 1:00 a.m. like previously. no other recordings are happening at the time either.

Tried to watch cake boss on the Joey last night both recordings were cut off. Never happened before?

I previously said that closed captions were not working on one Hopper. Today, closed captions are back, but it doesn't see the other Hopper anymore.
