If this dispute drags on for weeks it will cause people to wonder if it will happen again when another dispute comes out.

Yes it will cause some to wonder. But let's assume that D* holds the hard line and we get Viacom back for much less than they want. You can bet your bippy that the other content providers will have seen that and know what the costs and terms are, and then they'll look at E* with AMC doing something similar, and assuming that gets settled for a much more reasonable amount than what AMC is asking for, the other content providers might just be a bit hesitant to get too rigid in their demands.

And assuming that the churn of both D* and E* isn't horrendous over these two events, then there is no reason for the content providers to think that they both won't pull the plug.

All in all, I think the hard line is the right line!

Im telling ya, I just dont think people care as much. I get Nick, and Maybe MTV, but a lot of that one can live without or get elsewhere (kid shows). Now Killing and Walking Dead, no way man!

Call Viacom at (212) 258-6000 and ask why they are so greedy. (Record and Post)

We should offer a bounty for people to find the executives cell and house numbers.

Why don't you call and ask the same question to your electric company and your gas company and your phone company. The answer is, because they can be.

im scared to call directv now since cnn outted us

I wouldn't worry about it. DIRECTV themselves said that if people call them they will do their best to take care of them. DirecTV has been very classy in this ordeal. Viacom on the other hand... not so much.

Just got this in my email from DIRECTV.

The Latest on Viacom:
Dear Scott,

DIRECTV's been able to bring Viacom executives back to the boardroom and have been talking several times a day the past two days. While nothing is imminent, we will continue to hold discussions as long as Viacom is willing to engage. We appreciate your patience and you will be among the very first to know when we arrive at a resolution. Rest assured, we are working hard to return the channels Viacom took away and - in the meantime - give you high quality alternatives.

We set up a special navigation tool on DirectvPromise.com to make your life a little easier, only to have Viacom pull all their best free online content. It's what Public Knowledge, a consumer advocate, called an "unprecedented" step of cutting off everyone from their programs.

We're also sorry for the many children who have knowingly been frightened by seeing beloved, trusted characters like Dora and SpongeBob claim they are being abandoned. It's irresponsible and indefensible, and we will continue to fight it. It's no laughing matter and many of your fellow customers agree.

Rather than engage in unnecessary antics, all DIRECTV wants is for you to relax and enjoy programs with your family and not have to worry about still making the mortgage.

To help overcome the loss of these channels, we've opened up 8 new Encore services to our residential customers until July 31st, and created mix experiences on all the Viacom channels.

Thank you for your continued patience.

I'm starting to wonder if it is getting like the local power company, ask for 20% more and get granted 8% increase instead of asking for the 8% increase that they want and having it shot down.

Wow this dispute reached a new level. Amazon VOD just refunded my money for the episodes I had bought of Teen Wolf from MTV. Viacom appears to have pulled the license from Amazon...

I had bought the episodes via season pass and when the dispute started Viacom appears to have pulled the videos off of Amazon, so Amazon just refunded my money...

Wow! I wouldn't have expected that to happen. Viacom is very vicious.

Which makes me think, why would you want to do business with a shark like that? And certainly, why would you want to give them any increase to reward them for poor behaviour?

And from a business perspective, Viacom has falling viewer count on many of their channels, their ad rates are very low compared to many others, and they are not offering more for the increase, only an increase and get the same old mind-numbing shows. D* should be offering them less for their package as the advertisers are paying less to advertise on them, and that tells you the market value of their lineup!

After reading the previous posts and seeing that some folks got the NFL ST for free for the upcoming season, I figured I'd give it a shot and call in. I did the standard "cancel" twice thing, but the first CSR I got connected with only offered me $5 off per month for a short term (I think 3 months) and Starz free for 3 months. I told him no thanks and that I'd still wanted to cancel. Then I got transferred to a female CSR, who was nice but also didn't offer much. Now I'm on hold and it's over 30 minutes and I get a hold of a young friendly CSR from the south and I nicely let her know that my young daughter misses the NICK channels and I'm looking into cancelling service. She mentioned she'd look at my bill and see if there's anything she can offer me. After looking at my bill, she said they could offer me a one month credit for about half of the bill (-$70 or so off). At which point I said thank you, but do you have any promotions for the NFL ST? She said "let me check." So after a minute or so she gets back to me and lets me know she could throw it free for the upcoming season! But I would need to agree to a 1 year contract (I am currently off contract). And back to Starz, she said she could also throw that in free for 3 months. I told her that's cool, but I could really take or leave Starz. :D But I got it too.

So I guess because of this whole Viacom thing, I'm getting Encore free (which everyone is getting) thru the end of July. NFL ST free for the upcoming season (after agreeing to the 1 year contract). And Starz free for 3 months.

I didn't rob the bank compared to some of the previous posts, but I really only wanted NFL ST for free if they'd give it to me. Mission accomplished. Well worth the time spent on hold. Thanks DTV!

PS: I forgot to add, I've had the NFL ST for about 3 years straight. This will be year# 4.

Here's a picture I made. WorldWithoutDegrassi.jpgI still feel the pain fellow Degrassi fans and other fans of Viacom shows. :(
