So whos NOT getting a Hopper due to lack of OTA?

To whom is it shipping?
Probably to the warehouse stockpiling OTA tuners. The way previous posts were worded, the hardware is already in production. Makes sense when you consider that it was a real production model at Team Summit.

They did the same thing for the hopper launch. The hoppers were already ready in volume before launch. It was just the software that was holding things up. Same issue now with the OTA tuner.

Scott- Do you think the Hopper OTA unit is actually coming out or is there a reasonable chance it could get cancelled? I don't want to commit to upgrading to the Hopper unless it is certain that OTA is coming. Thanks.

I think they will really put it out. They follow that some of us want this and the fact that they have tried to include the capability in the past is good.

It is a useful accessory for people who want subchannels or PBS.

I have no doubt at all that they will be releasing the OTA module and software SOON.

(You can hopefully read between the lines there.) ;)

No matter what Scott says, if you won't be happy without OTA, then don't upgrade until it is shipping.

I'm happy without it and the other benefits out weigh OTA's absence for me. If it comes along I'll be happy, but upgraded with a mindset assuming it will never ship.

if OTA recording is that important to someone, i'd even take it a little further and say that you should wait for reviews to say that it's relatively bug free too.

Knowing this site they will have it well reviewed and bug checked and tested the 1-2 days after it is released.
I cant wait for the Sat Guys review on it. Hope it has details specs and signal strength comparisons

Examples: I could not get this channel on my built in TV tuner using an in house antenna but with the new Hopper USB OTA it picked it right up. Or better yet comparisons to the 722 OTA tuner signal bars.

I wouldn't be surprised if Scott's "First Look" review is virtually concurrent with the announcement.

Oh, we're having fun with the doubts, based on past history, but I think darn near all of us that have been here a few years are nearly certain it will come out. Even if only 1% of their customers buy it over the years (yes, H/J customers are still a minority), that's over 100,000 units and Dish does not often leave money on the table. I'll bet they'll sell a few hundred thousand of them.

That being said, you'll notice that I am not moving to H/J until (at least) the OTA tuner and manual timers is out.

I took the plunge without it. Hopper/Joey was 'good enough' for me to upgrade. Now, I will buy it in a heartbeat. Especially if it gives me additional record channels (2 I hope) and (hopefully) will still autohop, since it is the same local channels I record right now...

I think it had something to do with MOCA limits. Not sure, but it was posted here somewhere. One OTA tuner per Hopper.

i'll be curious how well the hopper can keep up with say OTA tuner, sling, multiple tuners recording, multiple TVs playing back content. That's a lot of demand for just one device.

I could really use that OTA tuner for my Hopper. We lost our CBS station in Columbus, Oh due to a fee fight. It's been going on for a couple of weeks with no end in sight. I'm in favor of Dish resisting these large fee increases but it would sure be easier to weather the storm with an OTA tuner.
