BIG 10 is BACK - A Deal Has Been Reached!

Well I pay around $164 for 1 location. And I could care less if BTN ever comes back. Why, I don't watch it. Greed on Dish's part, well I rather my bill not go up due to Dish caving on the price increase from BTN. If BTN is so interested in their viewers there is a simple solution. Allow Dish to sell it a la carte. Then if you want it, you pay for it.

Just remember what you said when some of the channels you watch get dropped. Let them go ala cart too. It's so easy to say that stuff when it's not your favorite channels but when it is...... Oh boy!!

I don't watch Disney, Nick or any of those channels but I know other people do. Same with ESPN. I watch it others don't.

A very good point that all should take into consideration, even though you are a Buckeye fan. :D

I was responding to the post I quoted. I just am getting tired of everyone jumping on the Dish is greedy train. Some posters say Charlie is greedy. Fact is Charlie also has to answer to stockholders being its a publicly traded stock. On the BTN side,I have no knowledge of their business structure. As to their motivation on the price increase, who knows.

There are 2 parties in the dispute, both are a business, both want to make money. And a lot of people posting here cannot get beyond that fact. And I personally have no inside info on this dispute.
My bad, based on what you just wrote, I can see the other context now.
i just changed from dish family to dish 250 to get the big ten. and i told the rep that was why i was changing to get the big ten. can i change back now? sheesh. charlie
That'd be like lighting a cigarette with a flamethrower. Wouldn't Top 120+ get you BTN for about 20 to 30 dollars less?

If you have no inside info on this then why state BTN is asking for a price increase.
Dish may be trying to get a lower price:D

I get the meaning, but really other channels are not the same as the BTN or PAC12. Even RSN's border on not being the same. I can pretty much guarantee an extremely small percentage in New England for instance care anything about the BTN or PAC12. They barely follow their own local non pro sports compared to some other regions. Sure there are some transplants or those that watch whatever football game they can. But not the vast majority. I don't want to pay for regional sports not in my region. As the poster talked about, it needs to be A La Carte. Add to that the general cost of sports compared to most cable channels and it's just not the same. I don't want anyone to lose a channel they like so don't get me wrong I agree. But if RSN's and and regional sports were always A La Carte I bet Dish would carry them all, bandwidth allowing. But the cost would be quite alot higher because so few (relatively speaking) would pay for it. And that's why RSN's refuse to be outside regular programming packages.

I thought if you didn't live in the Big Ten area you have to get it through the sports pack? Or is it top 200? So say you have the top 200 and you have Big Ten. Is paying 20 cents or 30 cents really that bad? Hell I know I'm paying that much or more for channels in my package that I never ever watch. I don't watch any of the MTV channels, Disney, Nick. I can go on and on. I pay for them though. So I really don't see much of a difference. You don't watch Big Ten sports. I get that. I don't watch any of the channels I listed and more.

I do agree with your post so please don't take my post to heart. Just trying to make a point.:D

Does anyone know if Dish and Big Ten are in active negotiations? If it's like AMC where both sides seem to have stopped even trying to work things out, I'll start researching other providers.

I was told they are still talking. I would also like to know. If they are completely done carrying it for the year then we might start selling DirecTV along with Dish. Getting tired of losing customers right now.

Scherrman- I'm in Iowa too and I empathize with your situation as a Dish seller. I would guess you are getting inundated with upset customers and having a hard time selling Dish without Hawkeye football/basketball. I would guess it's even worse in Nebraska.

I lost an upgrade because of it and we haven't had a new sale since last week. Already had a DirecTV rep come in to get us to sell them and we are seriously considering. I have considered selling both in the past anyway but now I may do it.

I called our local guys in CR Saturday to switch to Directv. I wanted to get in line for an install before the Hawks game started at 2:30 and everyone realized what was going on. Anyway, yesterday I had to call back there about some rebates, and they mentioned that the girl working Saturday by herself was swamped with irate customers. I said, Yeah that's why I called then, too. They sell both Dish and Directv as well.

How's this for aggravation for Big 10 fans who are Dish Network customers: I live in B.C., Canada and my local cable carries the Big 10 Network (full time HD) and I noticed last Saturday that they are now picking up the alternate games on a couple of HD sports dedicated channels. Weird that I'm in a better position to see Big 10 football than Dish Network customers who are smack dab in the middle of Big 10 country.

When I called DirecTV yesterday to place my order the CSR asked why I'm switching from Dish. I told her that losing AMC was bad and B10 was the final straw. She said they've been swamped this week with Dish customers that are cancelling for the same reason.

I think it's the prudent business move. I'm surprised you weren't already dealing.

They've been asking us for a few years and I've been thinking of it. The things is, we sell more than just Dish. We also sell and service TVs and appliances so we stay pretty busy. I worry that me may get in over our heads with it if we do take on Direct. I need to make sure we're prepared before I make the decision and it's looking more and more like we will. I'm waiting for an official statement saying they are carrying it or not.

Just a note to those of you who want to call Dish to get a discount or cancel, make sure you get the loyalty department for the best deals available. Don't forget to be friendly while still letting them know you are frustrated with channels being dropped. Also remember that if you do not subscribe to a ton of programming or haven't been a customer very long that you may not get as great a deal as some others.

I just did the online chat and was offered some great deals. More than I even asked for. I was able to lower my bill about $30. I have been paying over $160 before so I'm still paying more than the average customer so I wouldn't expect to get the same savings as me.

Hopefully this makes it easier for you to get some deals from Dish and also makes it easier on Dish dealing with customers who are a little more pleasant.

Feeling the impact of this on Saturday for the first time --- won't be able to watch my team play as the game is on BTN. This sucks.
