Connecting to Internet on H24-700

I've read that I need a DECA module/kit to get Internet access on my box without disabling MRV.

But my issue is... I have just one box, the H24. I don't need MRV, as I don't even have another box to use it with. So is there some way around using the internal DECA for MRV and then using it for Internet access?

But the on the other side of the coin, the whole reason I'm trying to get the box connected is because I want to be able to use my iPad to watch television... Which I'm hoping doesn't require MRV, but I don't know.

Another question is, once I do get the box connected which ever way I can, does it have to be connected to a computer? If so, how/why?

You can hook it up with an ethernet cable to your router and reset the unit so it will recognize the connection. I know nothing about mobile devices so someone else may be able to help you there.

As joed32 mentioned, simply connect the cat5 cable from your router to the H24. A DECA is used in an mrv setup only. It should be ignored by the H24 without mrv. The iPad is just another wireless device that your router should recognize. I'm not sure I understand your last question. Connect the H24 as described, through the router.

Welcome to the confusing world of DirecTV. As the others ahead of me here have stated, you can just put a wire into the back of your HR24 and you will be connected to the internet. Plugging directly into the back of an HR24 only works when you do not have MRV, but you don't so you are fine with this option.

Being connected to the internet gives you access to on-demand content. You will also see on your "Extras" tab that you get access to YouTube, Pandora, etc. as well as being able to share your recordings with your ipad.

You do not have to have any computer connected to your system to use any of this functionality. And being connected to the internet has nothing to do with being able to schedule recordings from your ipad or your computer. Ironically, you do not need an internet connection to your receiver to accomplish that task.

i have MRV and internet on my HR24-100 and i am plugged into the network port of the HR24. same with my HR20-100, network port connection. Both work flawlessly, i just wish i had a better internet service so i could actually watch a HD movie the same day i try to download it.

I just connected my directv receiver to the internet, I think it is an HR24/200. I was reading this thread and i experienced many of the things mentioned. I don't know what and MRV is. I'll have to find out later. I upgraded to an hd receiver specifically so that i could use an ipad as a remote control. Before I had an sd receiver, an R22, and a month to month contract. I was happy with that. Then I tried to hook that old receiver up to the internet and soon found out I needed a newer hd receiver to be able to do that.
Directv had some sort of receiver upgrade promotion going on, which came with a new 2 year commitment, of course. I jumped on it.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I got the new receiver onto my wireless network. The ipad works great as a remote control. It has more features than a regular remote, but it is good to have regular remote around for certain things. The programming that you can watch on the ipad is rather limited, unless you have one or more premium packages, which I don't. The Ipad as remote experience is good enough for me right now. It was worth the bother.

MRV stands for multi room viewing (WHDVR).

Thanks for the welcome. sorry I haven't replied earlier, I spaced out and couldn't remember the name of this forum... And I didn't bookmark it.

I've tried plugging a cat5 from the router into the box, but it didn't work. I had uplink and down lights (yellow/green), but it still wouldn't connect to the Internet.

But i think that's because my box was set up for MRV. Idk why, I never needed it. So is there a way to turn off or disable MRV, or is there something wrong with my box, causing it not to connect?

Check under menu, setting, whole-home, status. What does it say?

It says it's not authorized, but I saw it somewhere in the info section on the box.

Apparently, my problem is that Cinema is not added on my account. And directv apparently doesn't have the ability to add it, because, and I didn't know this, I get my DTV through like, a sub-service contractor, or something.

The tech tried everything he could, but no dice. He said he could send me a cinema connect kit, but that it would only connect the box to the Internet, but not give me the features. He also told me, which I didn't know, that I can only use the iPad TV app (like, watch TV on it) with the wireless kit, and there's no way to do it with the box being connected to just Ethernet.

So, I guess I'm just SOL.
