DTV onscreen channel guide

My install was on Saturday morning. I curious how long it takes for the logos to show up on the onscreen guide (if they do). There is enough space on the left side to show the logos.

When I check online for pictures of the guide, it doesn't show the logos as shown here.

Also, does anyone think they will change the guide to show 3 hours instead of 1-1/2 hours? I really liked the guide on Dish because they show 3 hours.
 
I just got a response from @DIRECTVService on twitter and they said we no longer have logos in our guide only channel number should appear.
 
I'd be happy if they would show 2 hours on the guide.

BTW, if you go left when on a channel in the guide and then press Info you'll get a list of the shows on that channel going out for days.
 
Maybe we should all send @directvservice a tweet requesting they change the guide to show 3 hours at a time. :)
 
One of the few things about Directv I don't like is the lack of logos in the guide. It all runs together to my eyes cuz there is nothing to break it up. The color that the logo would add (and make the spaces a little wider, show 5 channels at time, and make it 2 hours) would make the guide nearly flawless.

Right. I wasn't going to take a picture but I have no problem reading my hopper or Joey guides from across the room.
 
when I had a Dish 211k it looked teenie to me. I guess it all depends on TV size and how good or bad your eyesight is :)
Not sure how the 211 looked, but between the hopper and my HR, I get more info and more contrast, with basically the same size fonts. (as shown above). May have looked different with the 211 or older. I did not pay all that much attention when I had my parents 722 installed.
 
D* could change their guide considerably and fit everything in if they wanted to.

They have room on the left side that could add room and some on the other side, that would equal up to another 1/2 hour at least.

There is alot of room that things could be moved around and they could m ake the font larger as well if they wanted.

What you would have would be titles with less info seen on the screen till you hit the info button and that would move you to another screen all together.
 
I don't know that Dish allowed you to configure the width of the guide (# of hours), but they did allow you to configure the height.. golly, what a radical user-interface concept... give the end-user several configurations to choose from... so those of us who can read the copyright line on the eye-charts will be happy, as well as those who can't see the E on the top line :)

There doesn't have to be just ONE answer... geez, I was writing code like this when I was a co-op 20 years ago... its not that hard if they simply chose to do it.

Wonder if D* has even considered it, seeing all the other stuff they have thier hands in at the moment.

WAY back in the day, many of the recvrs were interface changeable, that was PRE D* Branded, not all of them were but some were.
 
It would be nice to see explanation or logic behind giving users only one choice of guide data view. Maybe they're afraid Dish would sue them if they display the same amount or come close to it... </sarcasm>

the guide has to be THE(?) most frequently seen provider-specific screen on a "cable box/DVR".... I'd get much less upset about configuration/setting screens which I felt lacked good a human-interface b/c I would much less frequently access them. The guide is something you want to be the most pleasing experience for your customer.. IMO. Its also the 1st(ish) thing a customer sees after switching over from their previous provider. And when its laggy (as the HR34 certainly was at least up until recently) and/or provides much less info (vs. Dish's format), it makes an immediate and detrimental impact.

when I got my HR34 everyone was applauding the new 'HD' guide on DTV.. my response was "wow.. if this is what makes you happy, it must have been really crappy before" :)
