The one thing that Roku is lacking compared to Apple TV is buffering. It would be nice if there was some buffering, especially for trick play.

Looks interesting! I know I'm old fashioned, but the simple "standard A/V" output would have been nice. Like on MicroHD satellite receiver. But then, ROKU and the industry wouldn't want any chance of analog copying of content. And, before anyone says it, I know...I know...it's AN "HD WORLD." If the box is faster in loading and responding with less quirks, I'll buy it tomorrow. A present to me, even without analog out.

I hear ya. A buffer and I'll add a decent wireless antenna! I was trying to use it over the weekend and had to switch it over to a wired connection in order to actually play anything. Looking at the fine print though, it looks like they added dual band wireless to this latest model. So hopefully it will be an improvement.

And it's nice to see that current Roku 2 based hardware are also getting the new UI by May 18th. (Oddly specific date right there on the page.)

Color me unimpressed. No analog,no optical,no ethernet port, and no stand alone dlna.

So....looking deeper.....for me the decision comes.... a TV with apps slightly larger than the current one for $259 or...the new roku on the current TV? Hmmmm...

the best part of a roku is the private channel selection..stuff u cant get with a internet enabled TV

i love them..there is an ap called plex that will allow streaming from a PC to the roku

Cool thanks for the info. Another question what about Sports can you see most of the main events that happen during the week and on the weekend?? I like Nascar and more of a college sports fan than Pro so those sports are what I would have more of a interest in.

Agreed. I don't use allot of them, but..some "less than mainstream" channels are not on "smart" TVs. I'm mainly a netflix-amazon user but TWIT-TV is right up there for keeping up with technology too. I don't think that has made it to the smart sets yet. Dollar for dollar, a newer, faster box with the multitude of available content is a good bet and less expensive.

The new Roku is not really going to give you more, so I would go with the new TV with the Apps and use your old Roku. :)
faster processor..some pbs channels and something about fox and youtube..better channel interface but you are correct (as usual) just the same old roku

uhh it has ethernet..get a Roku1 if u want analog and optical..for $99 dollars its not that bad

Ahh,missed that photo.;) Think I'll stick with the roku2 xd.Looks like the UI upgrade will be rolling out on most roku boxes come April anyway.

My only hope was for faster loading and less "quirkiness" of signal drop and re-buffering with a newer, faster box. Who knows. Might be good to wait for (other) user reviews before I order.

I use the Roku2 very often, rarely do I get buffering and never a signal drop. Loading is very dependent on the source. Amazon loads quite quickly, Twit can be slow at times. HBOGO can be slow to load too, yet VUDU is relatively fast.
The headphones via the remote is a feature I would use at times.
