Dish Network and Netflix

I think that Charlie would be very smart in approaching Netflix with a deal to include their subscription service with every dish network sub- Charlie could give Netflix access to all the blockbuster stuff/content/storage and Charlie could make the hopper the most kick a$$ streaming internet box on the market. Imagine being able to use the dvr on a sling loaded hopper to download a movie from Netflix then send it to your ipad to view on the road without using your wireless data plan. I think it would be an awesome match. Talk about a sticky dish customer. If the hopper had kick butt Netflix integration it would be that much harder to get somebody to switch to another provider. Then you could add the search feature from the google tv box and you would be set- Chrome integration....

Netflix has a ton of customers already. The rights to the Blockbuster content is limited to PPV, which is not part of Netflix's model. There is little gain for Netflix in a deal like this.

I think you have it backwards. There is little to lose for Netflix from this. Develop an app for the Hopper, then let Dish market you to customers who aren't interested in having multiple devices hooked up to a tv. Dish does all the billing and passes on the money Netflix is due. At the very least its an additional potential stream of revenue without significant outlays on Netflix's part. And if Dish markets it successfully, other providers will be interested in doing the same.

Block buster has online stuff that Netflix doesn't have and they also have digital copy right that would help Netflix. It would be an awesome match plus charlie loves Netflix and could offer them a channel to run the original production series on.

Except Netflix is a competitor to Cable/Sat companies. It is one of things that is obtained when the cord (or chord in other posts ) is cut. Besides, in order for it to work, one would need to have an ethernet or wireless connection for their rcvr, and anyone who goes through that trouble probably has a device for Netflix anyway.

That is the thing all of the other replies fail to realize. Why would Dish give you something for $8 - that they would make no money on, btw - that could very well lose them $20, $30, $40 or more when people start dropping tiers.

You can have part of what you want now,by having a Google TV bothere are several to choose from) in between your HDTV and DVR.

Where there's a will there's a way. Sounds like a good idea to me. Pretty nice benefit to offer that the competition doesn't have. It's all about garnering new subs.

With all the Netflix apps included in almost every device Tablets,Roku,Bluray.Player,Mobile Phones,TiVo,Google TV etc etc etc... It's not surprising although it'll gain more for Netflix than Dish.

I was hopeful at the BB@home announcement that Dish was actually going to compete with Netflix. But that is not what happened. They closed my local store, and DVDs by mail have slowed to a crawl. So, I agree. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

If Dish can make it exclusive of any other provider, it seems like something to explore. But Dish has to make money from it, because as some have pointed out it if you expose those to it that might not otherwise would have subscribed to Netflix, they could drop some of the premiums. In particular would they keep BB movie package? Or even a movie premium?

Perhaps bundling like Frank Fritz would do. The Netflix movie package APP which includes the BB movie channels plus Netflix online for "X" amount of dollars. (You could still get BB movies alone if wanted) You pick the app, it opens a choice of the BB movie channels, or a selection to go to Netflix. I would include the Premium movie channels inside that app if you subscribed to any also. All right there.

I can see Dish doing it, but Directv forget about it with their over zealous PPV ads. Plus they always advertise movies now playing before Netflix.
