DirecTV New HD channel additions and rumors

Eventually every channel that has HD should be carried. Maybe when D14 is launched and in operation.

Sat bandwidth an issue? Why not use IPTV to get more obscure channels in HD. HDVOD plays right away for me. As does HD like quality using the iPad app.

I just really want Fuse, We, Oxygen, Style, Sundance, the hub and Reelz.

Infomercials in HD? Yeah I get at least 2 of them in the Philly market. Ch 4 and ch 44 (wmcn HD)

Since NASA is already MPEG4 Ka band, I wish they would get some common sense and change it to the HD version.

Also, why not throw up some of the extras like HSN HD and QVC HD on 110...

Because nobody gives a flying crap about HSN and QVC in HD.

Umm, no. They don't need to waste any more bandwidth on channels like that. Next you'll be saying they should have the infomercial channels in HD. Its just stupid.

Well then the next time Directv is considering new hd channels they should call you first, since you clearly know better than anyone what new hd channels should go up. Thanks for speaking for the entire customer base!

Looks like some people did not read what Scott posted in each forum today:(

Could you be more specific? I looked at all of Scott's posts today and I didn't see anything that looked applicable to this thread.

Then that begs the question tigerfan33, who was your post directed at?

Several posters before yours. Pretty obvious. Kinda reminded me of my old Dish days. lol

i am with you on the part of not caring about HSN and QVC in HD. i would rather see other additions, but you seem a little bit angry jerseymatt. relax chief :) life is too short and it's only tv.

Remembering that DIRECTV satellites often take several months after launch to be put into active service.

That's true. Directv takes longer to get them into orbit, thus saving fuel, allowing for a longer service life. They also do extensive testing once in place to be sure that everything is working properly. Dish gets it in orbit as quickly as possible with seemingly no regard for wasted fuel. I'd rather wait an extra month or so with the trade off being a longer life span, thank you.

I would of course like to have more HD channels but I would be way more enthused if the broadcasters could start supplying a 1080P signal instead of the 1080i and 720P being shoved down our throats now.

Huh? You think the quality of hd is so bad that you think it's "being shoved down our throats"? Seriously? You think 1080p looks so much better than 1080i that the extra bandwidth, and it would require quite a bit, would justify the reduction in the number of available channels? Really?

An interesting theory, but there's no evidence correlating quick turn-up to shortened life.

In the grand scheme of things, all US DBS satellite in-service failures have been hardware in nature (solar panel tin whiskers, solar flares, electronic and gyro subsystem failures) and not related to fuel depletion.

Instead, I suspect it has more to do with the other band payloads that DIRECTV saddles the birds with and the fact that DIRECTV 10 is such a fussy baby.

" Beginning in 2016, Oprah can require Discovery to “purchase all or part of (her) interest in OWN.” Yesterday Zaslav said that he expects the channel to become “a significant asset” and that it’s “off to a nice start in 2012.?.
http://m.deadline.com/2012/02/disco...-its-business-plan-but-oprah-calls-the-shots/

"While Discovery owns 50% of OWN, it can’t ensure that it will be repaid because Winfrey “holds operational rights related to programming and marketing, as well as selection and retention of key management personnel.” As a result, Discovery doesn’t control “activites that are critical to OWN’s operating performance and success.”

So after she kills it she still has a golden parachute, isn't that nice.
Anyone want to give odds on how long this station will be around?

There isn't? This isn't rocket science (pun intended). The faster you move the satellite into orbit, the more fuel you use. The more fuel you use, the shorter the lifespan of the satellite. It's pretty simple, really.
