New Upgrade Prices for Hopper w/ Sling

I currently have a 922 and a 722 for 4 inputs (I can record 4 things at once) plus 1 digital antenna for OTA. On Dish's Web site they say that with the Hopper you can record 6 things at once, but I've read elsewhere that the Hopper has just 3 inputs. I only have TVs in 1 room (2 side-by-side) and I use them both with PiP. Yes, sometimes I like to watch up to 4 things live at once. From what I understand, I would need 2 Hoppers in order to get up to the 4 inputs I currently have. Is that correct?

The Joey's don't have any of their own inputs, so a Hopper w/sling connected to one TV and a Joey connected to the second TV would not be able to approximate the setup I have now. It would allow me to have 3 inputs between 2 TVs instead of 4. So I could not watch both TVs with PiP or double buffering. Do I have that right? I love the idea of transferring content to the iPad using the HWS, and the HWS sounds great, but I don't think I could justify upgrading if it would compromise my current setup with which I am quite happy.

This is where it gets confusing. IF you activate something called PTAT you can get the 4 big networks (assuming you get all 4) using just ONE of the three sat tuners in the Hopper. That's because that tuner can receive the entire transponder and Dish moved the big 4 onto single transponders some time ago. Then you've got 6 things to watch live or record, plus one more if you buy the OTA dongle. But are those programs you want to watch in Prime Time including shows from the big 4?

Otherwise, you can watch/record 3 sat feeds independently, and 1 OTA feed (if you buy the dongle).

If you order a 2H/2J setup and return the 2J, I suspect your bill, even under the new pricing, will change little and you'll get greater capabilities.

Thanks! That helps clarify the issue. I watch almost nothing on the big four networks except college football during the season. No primetime shows or anything like that. Just football. The rest of the time it's all specialized sports channels. I thought that the fee for a second Hopper might be more than the fee for my 722, but perhaps not by as much as I might be thinking. And with two Hoppers, I could record 3 things times 2, or 6 total? Would that require an upgrade to my Dish? I already had an upgrade done so that I could receive international channels.

The only thing that will do this is two hoppers Jory's do not do pip

I had a 622 and a 722 and that was the reasoning I used with a local retailer to two hoppers and zero joeys

Isn't my EHD married to my current Hopper? I was under the (perhaps wrong) impression that hooking it up to a different Hopper would force a reformat of it, losing all my programming.

Your EHD is married to your account not the receiver.... You can move it around within the account, even among several receivers. Say you have a Hopper and a Hopper with Sling. You can move that EHD between them just by plugging it in to either one of them.

It would be nice if there was a simple way to save or move all of my timers on my current hopper to a new HWS. I have a LOT of timers.

That's very easy to do, press and hold '0' on your Dish remote, press 'Backup.' Let it work its magic, done.....

When you get your new Hopper, press and old '0' on your Dish remote, press 'Restore.' Let it work its magic, done...

Well......that was awesome.
So I guess when the new HWS comes in I need to link my current remote to the new hopper, make the restore, and then link the new remote to the new hopper? I assume the new HWS will come with a new remote as well?

Yes, yes and yes :) .

Yes. And if you're getting all your channels today, no need to change the dish.

Tech just left, HWS is working fine :) he asked me how I got dish to give me two for free :D

He also showed me the pricing that was on the work order and the $7 Hopper fee was there so I'm feeling confident about being grandfathered. :)

How DID you get two for free?
I was only able to get one for free.
Not that is a big deal, one should be plenty, I am just curious.

I also went through Zach and was completely happy with the results.
The new box is on the way with no increase in pricing.
Can't wait to play with it.

As I told Zach, having access to the DIRT personnel is one of the main reasons I will not leave Dish.
I do not have many issues but having them here to assist when one does crop up is invaluble.
The phone support has gotten much better over the last few years but just can't equal the support that the members of DIRT provide.
