So lets get this straight...

If I'm a new customer and I see this offer I'd still take the credits. Although my cousin who signed up somehow got the free iPad and because he was on the phone for awhile got 10 bucks off for a year. I think dish is giving away the free iPad 2's instead of 3 or latest gen because the iPad 2 equals closer to what they would give you in new customer credits vs the value of the latest one.

I guess I'm missing the point of running Dish commercials that are seen only on Dish channel broadcasts. Who are they aiming at, existing customers?

Ok so let me ask you guys something. Have you seen the commercials from directv ripping dish? I haven't seen one yet on dish.

No, since I don't see any commercials :p .

No, doubt they'd ever do that. It's #1 versus #2, and when Direct has about twice the number of subscribers, they have less need to be so aggressive in comparing to dish.

The differences they push are that Direct has Sunday Ticket, and by saying they do, they don't have to name who doesn't (everybody else). Dish generally compares on cost, and they have to compare to who they cost less than (Direct).

I work for Dish, but I understand enough about why. Direct is the leader, and the leader generally doesn't have to (or need to) name the underdogs. Hyundai has a car out there they feel compares to a BMW or Mercedes at a lower cost, so they will sometimes mention that. Mercedes, perceived as the leader, does not have to name Hyundai as their competitor.

I have seen them before and they only put those commercials on DirecTV accounts. These commercials are inserted to their existing customers in order to show them the other provider is not the answer. I suppose other people would see these when watching a commercial account at a bar our hotel though, that's where I saw them.

Saw the one about 24 part-time HD channels. Is that the one Rey is referring to?

I think Direct TV is smart not to mention DISH. When you are #, unless you feel threatened why draw any attention to #2. There are some favorable for DISH things not just the unfavorable, so don't even give the idea there is an alternative.
I actually think there are some that don't even think about DISH when they think satellite, they think Direct TV.

Well, then DTV is not smart, as Rey points out, DTV has commercials bashing Dish for DTV subscribers just as Dish has commercials bashing DTV for Dish subscribers.

And the reason for each one to do that is to try to hold on to their present day subs.... Show the subs that the grass is not always greener on the other side...

I meant more for general ads. The DISH ad about hidden costs is definitely generally seen, I saw it prior to the All Star Game on Fios at friend's house.

I've only seen a few people I've installed get the ipad and I went on a few service calls of those that had them already from Dish and hated them. You are getting a older style pad to start with and for most they are better off with a android tablet vs this junk. Seen in the notes on one job the other day the people complaining that someone told them they could get both promo pricing and the ipad2 - it was comic gold reading everything the CSR put in from them and the supervisor they were switched to. lol

I love my iPad 2 :D . I don't know why people that like Android try to put down iDevices. To each their own, iPad can't be all that bad if it's still the most popular tablet...

Same old I have vs you have...just like D* vs E*. Silly, as always. I JUST NOW bout an iPad mini, refurb. After lot's of research, could not find how Android would be a better buy, especially since I just got Hopper w/Sling with iPad transfer. Will I use it much? Probably not...but I can!!!

ipad 2 and ipad mini have same specs, other than mini being smaller, it's a great tablet.
