MavTV moves to 214 starting 8/21, Fox Sports 1 to 219

I sense there is a need for a major overhaul.

The tweaking of sports channels, where some are treated preciously at the front of the lineup and others to the back, is odd. The separation of CNN and Headline News from other news programmers is outdated. The switch of Playboy to a numerical slot in between content totally unrelated and inappropriate is stupid.

Getting a news item like this reported topic just tells me that, if DirecTV wants to get it right, it should reorganize via a numerical restructure.

Theres reasons for most of them being where they are.
CNN BOUGHT the right to be there, ahead of the other News channels
The MAIN Sports channels are in the 205-220 area, the 600's is for Sports Package RSN's ect.

Playboy is the only one out of order, and thats only if it's not in the high 575 and up, haven't looked to see where it's going to.

Seems like there would be a mutual-interest for DirecTV and FOX to move those channels simply for the sake of the user experience. FX at 248 and FXX at 619, that is just bad for everyone.
FS1 at 219, FS2 at 618, same thing.

To move FX would move it OUT of it's natural position, in with the likes of USA , Sci Fi is exactly where it should be, just because they all belong to Fox, doesn't mean they all need to be together, all the Sports channels (outside of the RSN's) makes sense.

anyone know when the guide will be updated ?

Just a guess, but I'll say after midnight and before 6am.

Ya gotta remember, the channels that are being moved out, deserve to have the rest of thier day as well.

Speed channel will leave at 6am from what was mentioned earlier.

Thats when D* typically flips the switch for New channels.

Regardless if if it's a paid channel position, it's still out of order. I would like a complete overhaul

2-100 locals (move DNS to 70s-100)
100-499 "regular cable channels" group them logically, CNN paid for 202? Fine. Make the news channels start at 200. It's manageable.
-also mirror Spanish channels that make sense to be near their English counterparts (ESPN Deportes, Fox Deports, Nat Geo Mundo, etc) but also keep them together somewhere, like 450-500. They are a mess now! I am not opposed to CBNC and TRUTV having mirrors later on, too, as sports alternates, so that sports stay with sports.
500-550 Sports Networks (space them out to allow for inevitable changes) Group them logically, ESPNs together, All soccer channels, MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL in a row, etc.
550-699 RSN (I'm torn if the alts should be with the parent channels, or all together like Dish. I see advantages to each, and disadvantages)
700-750 All Sports packages (move all the soccer stuff here, too)
750-800 all the dumb crap they've got tucked in there like "private networks" etc.
900s Sonic
1000s on demand
2000s International (I am not familiar with this - I'll just leave it alone)

I don't mind the shopping channels tucked in there as filler, as long as they are mirrored together somewhere. With a favorites list, they can go away, and they create revenue for D*. While I am not naive to think it will lower my bill, I would like to hope that they help reduce increases a little.

This method is used by TWC cable in my area. It's actually nice, in theory. It creates gaps, but that's okay because new/rebranded channels don't mess up the order. What they do that makes ABSOLUTELY no sense is place the on-demand in with the basic channels and separate the HD to the 1000s. (Uverse uses this method, too.) I have never heard a GOOD reason to separate the HD/SD channels like cable.

TWC's crappy equipment makes it unuseable, but I think Directv should do a massive revamp in a semi-similar manner to make things easier to find. Since we have no real search feature, this would be great. The current search system just doesn't work in a way that makes sense to me, so I have given up with it.

This is silly garbage. (Not your post. The idea that this is important. That it is necessary, sensible, and eternal.)

DirecTV can do a restructure and CNN may, but likely would not, bitch however painfully it would. It is not a giant any more; it has no clout. And if DirecTV were to put regional and national sports programming in blocks that are sensible, well-ordered, it would work out well. It would be more efficient. And ESPN would win that prick-waving contest in emerging at the front of that part of the national sports programming lineup.

And your reason for making 2 million people learn new channel locations after 15+ years ?

This sounds like it's the way Dish does thier stuff ... Changing because someone else does it, isn't a good enough reason to change all your channels around.

I look at U Verse every couple days and scratch my head as to why they do thier line up the way they do.

I don't get to see dish very often, but when I did last, didn't care for it either, that said, neither is right or wrong, it's just the way the particular provider decided.

I don't have any issue with the search function either.

I'm not quoting your entire post. But I'm quoting parts of it with saying, in response, that you are understanding a more efficient ordering; a mapping.

You know, it seems like it was only a short time ago that MavTV was added to DirecTV. Period. And, already, it's getting moved to a different number. If DirecTV gives us Fox Sports 2 (to take over for Fuel TV), that will likely get moved close or next to Fox Sports 1 (taking over for Speed). That may move other sports programmers. Add to this the moves of premium movies programming; the moves of HD Extra Pack programming; and the move of Playboy TV and its screens. In the case of DirecTV, this is not a house in order.

:(

It is a mess for sure. I agree it's time to move CNN and HLN with the other news channels. There is informercial channel on 250 that can be easily moved somewhere else so FXX is much closer to FX on 248. They could even shift Comedy Central currently on 249 if they want them back to back. MAV needs to move to the 600s so 214 can stay MLB or NHL alternate depending on season. There are duplicates of most all shopping channels so the could move 222 and 223 to a new location too so FS1 and FS2 could be together. There are several solutions to fix it then there are other 600 channels that need to be in the lower 200s like CBS Sports. It would be nice if all the BIG TEN channels were together too in order :)

The channel guide now says Speedvision for channel 219; MAVTV on 214. Programmingon 219 has FS1 commercials but looks like MAVTV programs are still being aired! This may go down as the most f'ed up conversion in DirecTV history. Maybe by choice! DirecTV certainly has not provided any information to the switch. Any other time channel lineup changes have taken place I would see messages in advance of the change. This time nothing.

All I knoe is I wanted to watch the NASCAR CW Truck race this afternoon and I'm giving up hope on that.

Don't know what your watching, but I got up at 6:30 and 219 Clearly has FS1 programming on it, the first hour was College Football preview, the 7 am hour so far has had "Fantastic Finishes" on it.

The Channel guide says FS1, as does the Banner.

I approve of 213-1 as MLB-alt. I would like to see that across the board. Can SD receivers see it? I DON'T CARE. Anything to force an upgrade to modern equipment is a good thing. Good call, D*. Now let's take that clue for alternates and improve things even more. As for the truck race, i just saw an ad for it on 219.

Also, I don't like how a soccer game is labeled "football" on FS2 tomorrow morning. It's just too confusing! FS2 on demand is still Fuel, ch 1618.

i reset my receiver and the channel guide updated. now it matches what is being aired. my channel guide for 219 was showing the old SPEED channel lineup from channel 607.
