DISH Calls on FCC to Intervene as Media General Prolongs Blackout

So because Dish isnt getting their way they have to whine to the FCC?

How many times in the last 6 months has dish been in pissing matches with locals? Right now they have 3 ongoing (this one, United Communications and the Fox in SD which is locally owned)...

Ditto, you couldn't have said it better.

I say let Media General keep their channels and the FCC should allow Dish to give those markets another NBC from another market. Most people don't care about local news on this channel they just want those stupid reality tv shows that show on it or the random football game.

You would actually be surprised how many people do care.

I did an old folks home that was getting Traverse City Michigan locals on cable, and when we installed Directv the locals came from Flint/Saginaw Mi.

For a month after the install, all I did was take calls from all these old people that they miss seeing this certain weather girl, and that the weather was not right because Flint/Saginaw was too far south.

I'm like saying to myself, WTF your not even allowed to go outside so what difference does it make ?

I ended up having to charge them to install an off-air and add another modulator to the system.

But you think a customer would be happy with locals from a major city, but the local weather will get ya every time you try to switch locals.

but raising it 5 bucks in 2011 and 5 bucks in 2013 (while others raised it 2 or 3 bucks a year) must make that "price lock" look good ;)

Well that was the whole idea really, anyone that didn't realize they would do that after the so called "Price Lock" was just stupid. You knew it was coming no matter how awesome that period may have been for getting no increases. Now there was a crap ton of stupid people that were sold on it and switched to dish because of that advertising so it worked just like they planned.

I can say he gets a LOT more price increases.
since both providers basically raise rates (pretty much) yearly that comment is bogus.

He is getting less channels than myself with the same amount of rooms and he pays a good 45$+ more a month.
I guess being a Dish employee (as it says in your signature) probably has something to do with it. ;)

This is not just an E* whine. E* and D* both have urged the FCC for years to get involved, but sadly, the gov has their palms greased pretty good from the other side of the coin.

I think money is not changing hands (it better not be!) while commissioners are in office. But by golly is that place a revolving door into and out of the industry.

What I don't understand is why DirecTV subscribers come to the Dish forum? I certainly never step foot in the DirecTV forum to troll...

Dish went 2 years without an increase in their package prices. From February 2011 to February 2013. That's not what "everyone else" did. At the same time, every provider is asking for a big increase when their contract comes up. Those that say "Dish should pay it and shut up" would likely be the same people screaming if Dish did that and had to have a significant rate increase due to it.
But they stuck us with a huge increase in receivers fees during that time. But of course they can still crow about "no price increase." Typical Charlie BS.

Personally I like to keep up with both, since I have no loyalty to either and will swap back and forth as it meets my needs.

I do hope that nobody thinks I am trolling just because I, as a directv sub, commented in this thread. Certainly isn't my intention.

Oh look. Its Pete and his brother Re-Pete.
Seriously, we should be siding with the satellite and cable companies together as a group against the broadcasters. They're the ones behind this nonsense

Or if Dish would have turned around the signals for "free" to start with instead of charging anyone... ;)

The best thing about this dispute from my standpoint is that there will be a lot of dish installs once this is settled + 2 years.

I don't have loyalty to any particular company either but overall I'm pretty happy with Dish. When had U-verse TV I rarely came here except maybe a few times talking about how I missed Dish. I hung out on U-verse forums talking about the things that needed improvement with their service. When I came back to Dish I stopped posting in the U-verse forums about their TV service (I do still have U-verse Internet so I still talk over there about that.) I certainly didn't hang around there all the time trolling and talking about how Dish is so much better. I don't consider you a troll as so far I haven't seen you trolling about how DirecTV is so much better. I personally like Dish better than DirecTV but I don't go to DirecTV forums and troll about it. I'm just not so insecure about my own personal choices that I feel the need to stir people up in other forums about their own decisions and opinions.
