ENCORE networks are about to launch classic TV hits. What do you all think of this move ?

Won't watch it, if they showed commercial free older movies on a daily bases I may be interested but not with just lame shows prob full of commercials.

I'm up for Night Court! Great series. I only hope they show them in order of first broadcast. Quote from article: "The sitcoms will be commercial-free and unedited!"

Who can ever forget this little gem? LOL

I wish they would add Good Times.

Temporary layoffs, good times...

Even the quickest read of what was posted shows there will be no commercials, shows will be unedited.

Unedited? Commercial-free? Count me in! :clap

I plan to add the Encore pack the day it launches to give these a chance.

Did someone say Night Court? :whoo:
(Joke from the ESPN thread)

Couple of observations. They are remaking a couple of the existing channels, (not adding any) and I think the change sounds like a good idea though the vintage sitcom/drama show market is getting saturated. (But they will have shows others do not) It's a variation of what HBO and Showtime do with mixing movies and other programming, in this case not original)

It's a little hyperbole to say they have the most subscribers. They do, but because many of their channels are part of packages where people are paying much less for those channels. In addition, HBO especially, but Showtime also has some of the best original programming on TV, Starz does not so they can't just be a true premium service.

I would watch some of these old shows in the summer time. Metv gets a good work out in my house during summer reruns, so this channel would too.

I wish Dish would add the available HD Encores in HD. Also, it would be nice for Dish to add Encore (East) to the a la carte Encore Movie Pack.

I got my Night Court fix a few years ago on NAN. Was not a real Murphy Brown fan, yet would probably get a little pleasure watching an episode or two. However, nothing that would get me to subscribe, at this point.

I think it's a great idea to see reruns of tv shows on commercial free channels where the entire show is rebroadcast in it's entirety without being snipped for commercials!

I never really paid much attention to the Encore channels before on occasions when I did have them. Since they are all SD, is the PQ as bad as the other SD channels? I know some of the other movie/pay channels in SD seem a little better than the regular SD channels.

Since I have all but 2 of the Night Court seasons on DVD, no real reason for me to upgrade $10/mo to AT250. I already get them commercial-free and unedited. ;)

Although they tout "commercial-free," everyone remember that these shows will be 22 minutes, followed by 8 minutes of Encore promos before the next program begins. In the case of the one-hour drama, it will air for 44-46 minutes, followed by approx. 15 minutes of Encore "commercials."

I can live with that. In fact in parts of Europe most all commercials are grouped together at the same time.

I have deal only for you because you are such a good poster here. I will get you the Encore package for $5 to add on to your present package. :D
