DISH Reaches Long Term Agreement with DISNEY / ESPN / ABC

I figured the holdup was about Autohop as well. But I expected that Dish would have to disable Autohop altogether, bit surprised that ABC could be bought off for a bit more $$. (Of course, thinking about it it shouldn't have surprised me at all.)
We should be able to disable Autohop after it has been Enabled but Charlie I guess wants to see what we watch and review for his contract negotiations!! :D ;) :)

Autohop kills the network commercials. Those are commercials ABC has sold advertisers that are guaranteed so much viewership (i.e. gross ratings points). Whether the commercials are being skipped on their owned stations or affiliates' stations it does not matter, they lose a viewer with every hopper. For them to settle the lawsuit you can bet they want revenue from every hopper, not just customers in their O&O markets.

If a station is in dispute and pulled off Dish, the commercials are not being autohopped....

If find the bolded hard to believe. How can ABC (any network for that matter) GUARANTEE viewers to advertisers? Yes, they can show how many viewers a certain show had in the past and predict it will continue, but a "guarantee"? Sorry, don't believe it.

I have no personal knowledge of how the contracts with ABC or others work, but it seems that they could guarantee a certain viewership or the company paying for the advertising gets their money back (or a portion of their money back).

Exactly. Any DVR user with any provider has the ability to skip commercials.

I know this has probably been said but am I correct in that this dispute is why ABC Family is not in HD

Sure they could. That doesn't mean they do. I think advertisers buy shows based on past ratings (of course the exception would be brand new shows). The higher the rating for a show, the more it costs advertisers. I'm sure a network (or local), when selling time, says "Show 'x' averaged 20M viewers in the last 4 weeks. You want to reach a lot of viewers, here you go." Of course, they look at demographics more than overall numbers, but I'm simplifying. I doubt money is given back if people don't watch the shows.

Supposedly it is on its way back to HD - an older spat switched off the HD a few years back. A new story broke last week that the last snag to getting that back was this AutoHop deal. Money is settled. Almost there . . . .

That can be done without autohop.

I meant turn off Prime Time Anytime once you enable it we should be able to do it instead of once it is enabled nothing you can do to disable it and I have Hopper with Sling. Sorry for confusion :)

You can disable it, just not when it's currently recording.
