I have been a Directv customer since Sept 2012 and I have a HR-34 with three 31 clients. I really like the Genie, but I do find that it has some bugs. Lately I have been experiencing problems where I have to restart my 34 more often than before and the lag time on the clients is starting to get old. I have heard that the HR-44 is a lot better with bugs and lag time on the clients... is this true? And how much would Directv charge me to upgrade? I am assuming I would have to sign another 24 month contract, but that isn't a problem.

Thanks for the help,

The HR44 is much better than the HR34, less buggy, faster response, overall an improvement. It will get you an additional 2 year commitment unless you can convince Directv that the HR34 is defective and needs to be replaced.

good luck with that. i am eligible for a free hd dvr upgrade. i asked for a 44 and told dtv i would disconnect my 34 and get it off my account. they told me no can do. i own my 34. not sure that had any bearing on it or not.

In general, DirecTV will NOT upgrade an HR34 to an HR44. If the HR34 is faulty, and you arrange a service call, you might be able to persuade the tech to replace the Hr34 with an HR44 if he has one on the truck.

Also to add to this, replacing the 34 with a 44 won't speed up the clients either, the clients would also need to be swapped for 41's. The 31's are still leggy and painfully slow on a 44 for some reason.

What if I could upgrade the 31s to 41s and keep the 34? Would that speed up the clients?

They're maybe 1 or 2 that sells owned Genie's on eBay, if your lucky.

Edit. I just checked on eBay and there's 3 owned HR34's, Not sure whether they're legit or not.

Out of the 3 only 1 have the RID in their description, while the other 2 are just proclaiming that is owned, but don't include the RID in the sellers description, unless you email them, Looks kind of shady to me, But sometimes if you contact them they'll provide it for you.
