It may have been discussed here before, but was told that later this year X1 would have cloud. No storage limit using comcast servers. Sounds neat. Can anyone give me more info on X1? How stable is it now compared to several months ago? Pros and cons. I'm going to give it a shot. I have read posts here both good and bad about it. When I get it I'll update and tell y'all what I think about it!!

Very stable now, for the first few months I have had it I wanted to toss it out the window, but slowly it has become better, now it works has good as expected, no lock ups, no missed recordings, fast, good guide, etc.

I do wish the HD was bigger, but if the cloud stuff is true then no worries.

Cool!! Cloud was expected to be rolled out within 4-6 months according to Nikki, the customer service rep I talked to. Wasn't sure if she was supposed to tell me that or not although I really don't think it would matter this close to launch of Cloud. She really made on over that. Can anyone else confirm Cloud coming to X1? Maybe Iceberg or Scott knows anything?? Think I'll pm them and ask. Thanks for the info--Andy

As promised, I said I would post when I got X1 installed, and that was today. First, the box is definitely smaller than the clunky huge boxes. It displays the time on the front, and I'm not sure if there's a way to get it to show what channel I'm on where the time is displayed. Besides being able to access sports scores, you can follow favorite teams, access facebook, although it won't let you post from the X1. However, you can read posts, like posts, look at pictures and videos. You can connect to twitter, flickr, news, local traffic, weather, horoscopes, check your voicemail and more. The guide is now on a fourth of a screen on the right side but you can still pull up the full guide if you like. It has been updated and looks similar to the Hopper guide and shows the logos. It uses rotten tomato and popcorn thing to rate movies. If you forget the movie name, look it up by actor or box cover photo. It is quick to load the guide, within minutes of booting. It is a little slow to boot. Shorter than Directv, however. Plus record 4 things at once plus watch something else at the same time. If you time out on the menu, it shows pretty HD pictures and news, weather, traffic, and facebook posts until you go back to watching tv. Cloud technology is said to be coming to the X2. This is according to customer service reps and the installer today. Overall, I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Even the remote has been simplified, and the box can determine battery life remaining. It seems to be stable, and even the technician said when it first came out, it was very glitchy. I think I'm going to like it!--Andy :popcorn

Wife decided to make a change and we are also getting x1 installed this weekend. Hope the box is smaller than our bulky sa explorer boxes we now have. The remote looks cool! hope it doesn't eat batteries though.

We had the X1 installed on March 20th, first time for us and Comcast for TV. This time we are switching from FIOS and we really like it. PQ seems the same but the TV experience is way better. First off more tuners is nice, more OnDemand is really nice, the guide is better and we are saving money. It only missed 1 recording, and that was the first night, has been flawless ever since. Haven't looked into the cloud service even though we live in area that is supposed to have it. From what I have read it stores to the cloud first and then uses the HD? If we fill up I'll look into it but with the amount of OnDemand we only record if we can't Fast Forward. I'd rather have it stored locally, just in case there are network issues.

We switched from DTV to Dish way back when Dish had all the HD, then to FIOS because the Triple Play was less than the price of Dish alone for the same channels and a whole house DVR. Now Comcast comes knocking and offers the X1 Triple Play, with DVR and every channel except TMC for $109, goes up $25 year 2. Additional boxes are $9.97, we got 1 DVR and 3 additional, and of course the stupid modem is $8. So for $147 a month we got the Premier pakage, we were paying FIOS $209 for Ultimate which only had Showtime, Epix and Cinemax. We lost Epix, gained HBO, Starz, Encore and Streampix. I can get anything Epix shows on Amazon prime so that is essentially covered. I like having having HBO Go, we have a SmartTv so the app is built in and they have every series HBO has ever made available, already watched The Wire.

So far we all like it, never thought we would have Comcast but there is no way we couldn't switch financially. Every provider has their pros and cons, but at this point they are all close, so price wins. In 2 years we'll be shopping again, but a $150 ETF that declines isn't much of a deterrent.

What internet speed is included with that?

Fyi the modems can be found used on amazon for around 30 bucks. It'll pay for itself in no time.

I'm getting X1 installed on Tuesday. Have been with Dish for TV and ATT Uverse for Internet for years. Looking forward to the switch. Hope I don't regret it. Saving money, getting more channels and much faster internet. Was able to get X1 with just a Double play package.

I got a similar deal to what you have Super Dave. They will install tomorrow. However the eMTA modem for internet and phone they are letting me purchase it and avoid the monthly rental. You can also purchase it at Best Buy. Comcast does not force you to rent the modems, at least that is what I was told by the sales rep, but we will see after I have it installed.

Which one are you buying?

Where are you running the speed tests?

If I go to speakeasy my extreme 105 shows 40 Meg's. Only when I go to the official comcast speed test I show the higher speeds

Try speedtest.net if you haven't already.

I've tried both and get consistent speeds between the 2. With speakesy the nearest server is in Chicago. 58/11 with Blast.

Hi grantsa4:

Actually I think it is a pretty good deal.

4 receivers, 1 HD/DVR with whole house DVR, HD digital preferred + starz, unlimited phone, and internet, 25 mbs, + HBO for 120/month for two years. They are letting me buy the emts modem/router to cover the phone and internet. After two years, month 25 to 36 goes up 20 dollars to 140/month. Normal price for the package is 165/month.

All those prices do not include tax. 150 dollar early termination fee, and 30 day money back guarantee

I am coming from Direct TV. Not unhappy with their service, but going with Comcast triple play I will be saving about 40 dollars a month for the first 2 years, then 20 dollars per month for the next year.

Quick note. Comcast engineers just came out for the installation and told me that I cannot initiate a recording from the non-DVR boxes to the one DVR. I can only play recordings from DVR from the non-DVRs, but not start recordings. That is a no go for me so I didn't have it installed.

If you mean the X1 extender box, then they are idiots, I have the extender box downstairs and it does everything the main box does upstairs, set a recording, cancel a recording, watch a recording from the main box, rewind, fast forward, etc.

@ Claude: I run my test at speedtest.net. Getting 128 now on an ethernet directly into the modem. On my laptop I get 84 wirelessly. As far as the modem goes, I saw the one I would need on Amazon for $190, so I emailed the Executive Team and explained that I have a contract that does not include the modem, so after a few days she called back and told me what they will do is credit my account $20/month for 1 year to cover the cost and pay a little more for the mix up, seems like a win/win for me and I don't have to buy another modem for now. I guess she got a copy of the contract, my bill before taking the $8 off was $155, so it should have been $147/month for 4 TVs total, with the X1 DVR on 1, HBO, Starz, Max, Showtime and the Sports Package, phone and Internet at 100Mbps down and 20 up, next year it goes up $25. I can't complain, and I really like having so much available OnDemand and it marks that a program was watched and the resume works, even a few days later, never worked on FIOS.

I also agree with bruce, I have 3 other boxes plus the X1DVR and we can do on the remote boxes everything that can be done on the DVR as far as starting, stopping, deleting, undeleting, setting up and modifying any recording. What you cannot do is pause a live broadcast because they don't have a hard drive, they are just tuners.

Yup, absolutely right, the first technician didn't know the capabilities. Everything works including initiating a recording from the non-DVR to the DVR.

They are a huge company, but they really have to improve their communications among their employees
