Boy are you guys young. I remember the early 70's before the first oil embargo when gas was 0.24/gallon during a gas war in Buffalo and when the McD add was a Big M<ac, fries and a coke and change back from your $1.
Wish things were still like that nowadays.

But, min wage was something like $1.85/hour. I'm a retired hospital pharmacist. My first job in 75 paid me $14,000/year. By the time I retired 4 years ago I was making over $100k. So it's all relative.
Just wishful thinking.

If you're patient, Dr. Who comes on Amazon Prime streaming. I am unaware of another option for Graham Norton though.
I just checked Amazon to see how much it would cost for the hd version of this season and it's like $33.00 - $36.00 for the season pass. That is a little too high for me for one show. I could just wait till it comes on Netflix or PBS.

The first seven seasons are included with a Prime Membership. No season pass needed.

I dropped Showtime about two years ago...realized I rarely watched anything on it and they seldom had movies I was interested in watching. I liked the drop in my bill too. Then, the rate freeze expired, price increases went into effect and now with this Turner dispute, come February, they'll likely be probably 3%-5% increase in the monthy fee. Right now, what I pay per month is already $10 above what it was before I dropped Showtime 2 years ago, due to Dish's rate increases. So now I'm seriously contemplating dropping HBO. I don't really want to drop HBO, but it's a matter of economics. Dish keeps raising their rates...I haven't gotten a raise in 6 years...so, come February, I'll have to make a decision and I'm sure this dispute with Turner won't help matters any...

I'm with you......I lost my job 5 years ago, after 30 years of service.........no warning, no severance, nothing. In fact didn't get paid for unused vacation, or even get the matching portion of my 401k. Was fortunate enough to get another job quickly, but with a large pay cut, and no increase to speak of since. Dish seems to forget that we are still in a recession....

The first 7 seasons are available on Amazon Prime Streaming. Apparently on Netfix too, which I did not realize. Season 8 will be available some time next year on Amazon Prime, and I assume Netflix as well.

And that's why I'm seriously considering dropping HBO, especially now that it's $19/month! When it was $13/month, I thought it was getting rather high...at $19/month now, it's absurd...

So then, because of the recession, you agree with the takedown, so you can get the best possible price?

I was only talking about season 8 -the current season. For the price of Amazon , I could wait and watch it on Netflix. This may be the last year I keep up with Dr. Who in real time if it means saving the money each month.

Mitchflorida made a good point about sports. I don't care about ESPN, just my local Pittsburgh stuff which I can get on my ANTENNA. Local sports used to be blacked out if it was not a sellout. I remember being home on leave in 1972 when Franco Harris made the "Imaculate Reception" . The game was blacked out locally. Oakland called it the "Imaculate Deception".

When I was a kid, there where only 3 over the air stations and we were content. Now there are a lot more and in High Def and for free. My contract with Dish is over. It's just me and the wife at home now. Half of our watching is local. Do I need all these channels? Gonna soon make a decision.

That's usually the time I recommend something like the welcome pckage to enjoy some national broadcasts, but if it truly is just locals, and you don't mind doing something else for DVR, sometimes canceling is the best route. There are quite a few national broadcasts I watch regularly, so I couldn't go solely OtA, and I love my hopper.

I gave up watching season 8 in real time this year, especially after the season finale regeneration episode last year. It just isn't worth the extra cost to me anymore. I'll watch it on Amazone Prime or Netflix whenever it becomes available.

Actually, the best price won't be the result of the resolution of the take-down. Turner will, eventually, get a better deal and the channels will go back up (and so will our monthly bill). It's just the nature of the business model, and it's that way with all providers, not just Dish...

So you are saying, in Turners continuous decline in stock price, they are going to end up charging Dish more, than if Dish were to just automatically accept their offer? I strongly disagree. Of course their price will go up, but thanks to this takedown, it will not go up as much.
