FOX News Channel/DISH dispute

If Charlie thinks he's going to raise my rates next month and then stop carrying Fox News channel to save a few pennies, he's got another thing coming. Fox News gets big ratings, no matter what the know-nothings on this board say. If anything, Fox is underpaid for this channel, not overpaid. Dump one of the sports channels to pay for it.

If Charlie and his company pisses you off so much then why don't you go to a different provider. Coming here and threatening him and Dish isn't doing anything but raise your blood pressure and I am pretty sure he nor anyone from Dish is coming here and reading thru the thread and going, "holy crap, michflorida is treating to get $40 back a month if the fox contract expires" or "I wonder what that other thing is that will be coming from mitchflorida if fox drops their two channels if we don't reach an agreement this weekend?"
I get it, you like the channel, but seriously...

Don't mind Mitch, he is the new Allen.

If you switch over the short term lost of a TV channel, you need to reevaluate life.

Yeah well if CSPAN goes then I'll cancel Dish for good!. :eeek

Seriously though I need my daily dose of Fox News ladies, Martha, Andrea :heartbeat & Kelly.
So Fox needs to be "Fair & Balanced" in these negotiations.

Bottom line is who brings in the most money. If FNC, CNN and MSNBC were escorted to the door I'll give you one guess who would be pulled to the side and told let the door hit these folks in the a** on their way out. Go to any military base and nope.. your not going to see the peacock network or Wolfie....

I spent 6 years in the army and actually every hospital and 'business' building I went into had HLN on. Every single one of them. Now I got out in 2010 and haven't been to a base since 2011, so I guess it is possible that this has changed, but probably not. They want things to keep the wives happy more than anything.

Well , Obama is the Commander-in-Chief so I doubt if he is going to let Fox News be shown on the Army Bases, not if he has anything to say about it.

1) not his call, not even remotely.
2) it is up to the base commander what is deemed appropriate.
3) out of the selection of channels, the head of that specific office(dental, medical, finance etc) to decide which of the few channels they get, that will be aired.

A perfect example of a channel that breeds hate over any fact what so ever.... I find it sad... Nothing wrong with opinions...but has nothing to do with the words "NEWS"....

So how would some one get an opinion or find a fact like this?????

Guys, none of what is being discussed has to do with the channel possibly being pulled.

Can we either get back to that if there is news, or if not, simply drop it until there is.

The discussion as is will only lead to posts being moderated by a staff that I imagine has better things to do.

Well, I watch some FNC, but I don't think fair and balanced has anything to with the bottom line they look at. They want as much as they can get, Dish wants to pay as little as they can.
I am getting a little tired of all the drama...

I betcha he'll call your bluff. Few folks change because of news channels, or other channels, period.

The reality the Fox issues are all created by Fox. Fox tried to screw us all with the broadcast corporate owned-Fox channels ridiculous increases and then the rate issues with all the FSN channels, and so forth. It's all tied to one big mess. Fox is going to get what they brought on themselves. Maybe Americans can't live without Fox broadcast channels, or even the sports channels, but they'll live without the news channel. I suppose a few will call and complain and threaten to switch. Fewer will even do so.

Back on topic....I NEVER watch Fox News, but I don't think it should be pulled. I'd be upset if one of the channels I DO watch would get pulled & this should be no different for those that watch Fox News. For that reason, I hope they come to an agreement.

Stay on target everyone... :)

I don't know how many remember when FoxNews was NOT on Dish Network. FoxNews was a late-comer to Dish and Dish was still growing at a good clip without it.
Here was the news network line-up in December 1998.
200 CNN CNN
202 HNN Headline News
204 COURT Court TV
206 CNNI CNNfn/CNNI Financial and International News
207 BITV Bloomberg Information Television
208 CNBC CNBC
209 MSNBC MSNBC
210 CSPAN C-SPAN
212 CSPN2 C-SPAN2
213 NASA NASA Channel
214 TWC The Weather Channel
216 AMERV America's Voice

By April of 2000 it was on Dish. So Fox News Channel existed for 5 years or so before Dish picked it up. And even then it was not on the basic package. It was on the second tier (AT100 at the time)

Awww back when CNN showed news

Just make all of the cable "news" channels alacate.

Our bills are already going up at least 5 dollars without this fox news deal being done and at least 50% of subscribers probably either don't care about or flat out don't want this channel (as is also the case with the other so-called cable "news" channels).

Dish won't continue to stay in business if prices don't get under control.
So do you like getting pay raises at work?
This increase is to cover increased costs of doing business and to cover employee yearly pay raises and promotions.

Fox tried to up the rates on their channels after rebranding and losing programming! These aren't all about cost of living adjustments.

That was then, this is now. I'm guessing DISH did fine before many channels came to be on. DISH would not do fine losing Fox now.
