2015 Dish Price Increase

I really don't see any of the other providers being any less expensive than Dish, and I have done the comparisons. Of course, each situation and household is different. I can say that Verizon Fios is still MORE than $20 more expensive per month for what we have on Dish. I think it is probably fair to say that Dish has been losing it "lowest price" claim for quite some time. The cost of the alternatives now seem "competitive" but NOT any better than Dish. Charter in our area still has no whole home DVR system and only provides for 4 DVR's and it pricing AFTER the discounts go away are still higher than Dish, AND I would have to triple play in order to get that pricing. For me, there is just no less expensive MVPD out there today, and I know of those who have just sworn off Uverse, despite its decent pricing because the system just doesn't work. They can't watch TV. And DirecTV, for us, is still, bottom line, just more expensive than Dish, even if that difference is not nearly as wide as it once was, (in fact, it may be itty bitty difference in some situations), but IMHO, the Hopper is superior to the Genie, so even with a slight difference in price and the money Direct and cable are willing to stuff into our pockets to switch, Dish still comes out ahead for us. For what amounts to almost identical pricing, we would dearly miss the Hopper.

The ONLY truly compelling thing now keeping me with Dish is the Hopper and overall satisfied with what we are getting as far as channels and PQ, etc. and having been treated very well by Dish, including some FREE upgrades. No great motivation to change to a different MVPD who MAY not be any less or more expensive, but just does not have the Hopper and its particular advantages that we like, such as TWO Hoppers and the ability to playback from EITHER Hopper. However, at some point, even Dish may just force me to move on. We shall have to see.

If anyone is still unconvinced that sports is driving a large majority of the price increases, look at this:

The Multi-Sport Pack price has almost doubled in just the last 3 years.

Look at all the added content. They added what, 4 new conference channels/channel groups? SEC, Big 10, Pac 12 and Longhorn networks along with ESPN Goal Line which is like NFL RedZone but for different sports in different seasons. They have to do something to offset DirecTv and their monopoly on Sunday Ticket.

A few months back I moved down to 120+, from 250 looks like I will be staying there I still have the five dollar credit for a second Hopper for a for a few more months, for those of us early two Hopper setups. In regard to multisport, hope they still stay pretty liberal, with the half of prices they have offered off and on for the past year or so. If not, not a huge deal

Normally DIRECTV increases happen a few weeks after the DISH price increases and are usually in the same range. Comcast increases vary by the market.

I have comcast for Internet, I am thinking usually in my December bill, I get the insert for new prices for the new year

What happens if you don't like sports? I'll tell you what, you're forced to pay for them anyway.

I found one of my earlier bills, back from April 2010. Top 250 was $57.99. But that was before the free HD for life, so I had a separate line item for HD of $10 for a total of $67.99. Crazy how much it has increased.

I was looking back at the press releases from the past year, and Dish made new announced deals with Disney, CBS, Scripps Networks, A+E Networks, and somewhere they must have made a some sort of deal with Fox because they 1) were going to blackout the college football games on Fox Sports 1 at the beginning of the season and made an announcement that we wouldn't, and 2) Fox Sports 2 was added in HD. Plus who knows how many contracts were renewed during the year that weren't announced including locals. Something happened for NBC Sports Network to be dropped down to the Top 200 package. And when you go to Dishanywhere.com, there are more linear channels available there.

But many of the sports channels from Multi-Sport are in the regular packages, and the point is, that is what is driving the main package price increases as well.

I was more right then they were I said $5 to $7 and I was right on the money. ;)

Thanks for the info Scott, I see that the 5.00 increase is in a increase/protection box, I could be just reading it wrong but does that mean there is a 5.00 for a few months? Just asking...

Still haven't received the price increase email, so I'm wondering if there is a chart out there showing the price increases for different items/packages...

I am guessing due to contracts they have to have espn also in plain 120 package but if they could remove that and also cut it by 5.00 that would be appealing to some folks I would think, and leave it in 120+

I don't know what channels are in what packages in comparison to the Multi-Sports package, but it would allow someone to have a very low-end package and then add more sports for a reasonable amount of money.

I see that they are discontinuing the Dish America packages for new subscribers. It will be like Platinum and Absolute, sooner or later they will make us current subscribers change to a more expensive package. They always do. I have over 200 movies on my Ext HD, so I guess that I can drop Blockbuster@Home until I watch most of those movies, if I ever do.
