Yet Another Failed Dish Negotiation

Good or bad, this movie could give dish a boost. They're gonna need it if they don't resolve this latest dispute soon.

In interest of fairness, the statement was given with no fact checking and completely opinionated. I spent 10 seconds searching google and found that DTV had actually declined to broadcast it before dish and time Warner made their minds up.
Yeah, it looks more as if Sony was trying to shop it around and not getting any takers.

Probably don't want to offend their international audience. Isn't Dish the number 1 American provider for international customers?

I'm not sure why any VOD provider would pass on this. All the news coverage has given this movie more buzz than any movie I can remember. Even people who don't follow movies in any way have heard of it. Plus there are plenty of people who want to watch it now just because North Korea tried to prevent its release.

Personally, I wish every movie was released on VOD the same date as theatrical release. I'd much rather watch from the comfort of my home with my own TV and surround sound than deal with crowds, expensive tickets, and concessions.

Assuming iTunes or Amazon Instant has it available for $7 like all the other "still in theaters" rentals I will watch it over the weekend. The other movies that get this treatment are usually smaller, independent movies that didn't get a wide release and most people have never heard of them. They certainly don't have this kind of buzz so I can see them jacking up the price a bit.

Just got an email that the theatre down the street is airing it on Christmas day, so me and my roommate are buying tickets

I'd be surprised if it comes in at $7 price point.

I'll probably have some buddies over for drinks and pizza and watch it on the Apple TV or Xbox. I doubt any theaters in my area will be showing it. They are all major chains.

I kind of will too. I only pointed that number out because that's what iTunes charges for all the other movies that release in the theater and VOD on the same day. This is a much bigger movie than those typically are though.

Even if it's $30 it would be worth it for me. I plan to have 4 or or 5 friends over to watch it this weekend and there is no way we could all get a ticket at the theater for less than that.

If the threat of terrorism is an issue, VOD is the ticket to giving the hackers the big finger.

I just bought 2 tickets for the movie at the theatre.... $19.50....Holy *&%$ these tickets used to be $6.50...WTH.

I thought this movie would go straight to DVD/BluRay and VOD/PPV, but now it looks like it's being released in theaters and if not enough theaters
show it I guess then in January or February they'll I guess we'll probably release it on disc and pay tv soon.

There was always a limited number of theaters that we're going to still show it. Basically, from the report I read, Sony told the theaters that they wouldn't hold the theaters accountable if they didn't show it. Almost everyone pulled out, but there were two companies, totalling about 200 across the country, that said they were still going to show it, and they expected Sony's support. I don't mind paying just for the patriotism of the theaters alone, but we all knew going in that this was going to get expensive. Basic supply and demand. Tell Americans they can not have it for unAmerican reasoning, the equilibrium will naturally go up for Americans siding with an American company. Especially if that movie is about killing one of our biggest "enemies".

I whole heartedly agree with your statement, except for one point, Sony is a Japanese corporation, not American. Which begs the question I have had in all of this, where have the Japanese been in this whole issue. I have heard nothing from their government about it.

Ans Sony laughs all the way to the bank! This beginning to smell like a huge marketing scam.

This situation certainly has given this movie more buzz than it ever would have gotten on it's own. I highly doubt it was a marketing scam to go from a wide release in 2000-3000 theaters to somewhere over 200 independent theaters though.

I want to give them money to watch this but none of the theaters near me are even showing it. The closest to me is about an hour away in Ann Arbor and the only other 2 theaters in Michigan showing it are both over 3 and a half hours away.

I think this will do very well in the VOD market if any company actually decides to show it. As of right now though iTunes, Amazon, and all the other online guys have kept quiet. I want to pay to watch this and can't even find a way to do that. That's a weird marketing scheme.

I don't think this is just the opinion of 'muricans, but North Korea (well, it's leaders) simply isn't a popular country. I'm not sure it would offend anyone, including people who have left N Korea.

I'm not too old to remember my wife and I going to McDonalds, then the store for candy and pop, errrr, soda, to sneak into the theatre, and then to the movie itself -- and only needing a $20 bill to do all of that !
