Sling TV, the OTT pay-TV service from Dish Networks targeted to cord-cutters, said it has ended its initial invitation-only phase, allowing anyone to sign up for an offering that starts at $20 per month, and on Monday also announced another key programming partner -- AMC Networks

Good addition

Very good addition. Add in FX and it would have just about everything I watch. I already did my iTunes season passes for Walking Dead and Better Call Saul for this year but next season I will consider Sling TV instead.

Dish opens Sling TV signups for all U.S. viewers

Somewhat ahead of schedule, Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH) has rolled its over-the-top Sling TV service out to all U.S. users, offering yet another streaming TV alternative to a rapidly growing list of options.
The live broadcast-focused service was in an invite-only period and had been scheduled to go wider this summer.
The core package ("Best of Live TV") is $20/month with no contracts or hardware installation, and includes ESPN, TNT/TBS, Food Network, Disney Channel, CNN and others. Additional sports, children's programming, and news packages for $5 each extra.
The service comes on many devices at launch (Roku, Android, iOS, Mac and PC) and will be available on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick in "coming days" along with others in coming months.
Some on-demand viewing and rewind/fast-forward features aren't available on most networks, though, due to restrictions, and the service is limited to one device -- which may leave a big entry point for Apple's or Verizon's TV efforts.

Woah AMC is huge! I will echo the addition of FX would be a good get. Maybe when the FOX negotiations come up.
FYI, I used the chromecast app to turn on screen casting on my Droid Turbo and it looked pretty good on the TV. So that is another option until they add in more support.

The main problem with Sling TV, in my opinion, is the fact that you still have to buy bundles of channels. Soon every channel will want to be in the core package and the same thing will happen with Sling that happened with Dish, the price will go up.
Personally, I will be happy to replace ESPN with Bein Sport and NBCSN (for European soccer and hockey) and lower the core package price. To get Bein Sports I still have to pay for ESPN, a very expensive channel that I'm not interested in, and buy the Sports add on package where are more ESPN channels that I don't care about. I'm still waiting for a la carte to pay only for what I need.

This is going to be exciting to watch. Has a great change of destroying the existing channel models that milk us to death. But, how will the broadband providers react with their pricing for the pipe?

Very similar to the Canadian TV models and even the early satellite days. Buy bundles/Packs of what interests. you. For example for me to get Boomerang with Comcast in my area, I had to have the highest package. With this, I don't and I get the Disney channels to boot. IT's not going to suit everyone, but is a nice alternative to the 2-3 options of tiers Comcast gave me. Plus not $10/month per cable box etc.

Same with Dish and Disney Jr. To get that channel I have to have the $75 package, and then add in receivers and all. If it was just $5 on top of any package and I could get a cheaper package, I wouldn't have switched. But as you are siting the "early satellite days" I wonder if this may just be repeating history with price hikes and forced tier packages and less add-ons.

I don't know. The canadian shaw direct model is very similar to sling approach IMO. Just the base packages start a bit higher... Not apples to apples, but best I can compare to.

They can't react! NN is making a comeback!

Not only that but streaming video was already exploding in popularity long before Sling TV came around. It's going to be a long time, if ever, before Sling TV makes the same kind of impact Netflix has made.

Scott Greczkowski:
>AMC Networks and Univision are coming...

On the Base Pack? Anyway, just signed up. Now, I gotta notify some Canuck associates to see if this goes {redacted}.

More glitching. Now on ESPN it says "The content was not authorized for playback. Please contact customer support." What does that mean?
