YouTube Application No Longer Available via DIRECTV

I just did an update on my Sony Blu-Ray. The older Youtube is still there, but states non-functioning, the other one, which is the newer version is still there.

If anyone thinks this is purely a DirecTV move, just search Mobliegeddon (i guess thats what they call it). YouTube is getting an update and its affecting *everything*

My DIRECTV is still blank and Pandora is still not on. I tried a red button reset. The software is showing 0x99c. I have a HR44-500.

well i would argue that its not an entirely bad thing dropping support for old standards. i mean, a motherboard with an AGP slot on it in a world of PCIe 3.0 is now probably most useful as a coaster for your drink. and SD needs to die already lol. not really a fan of the typing scheme on D* anyway, for anything.

The YouTube on my HR44 is still there. It's has always been one of those wasted things - the app on the Directv receiver didn't show even 20% of the results for the same search that my phone or the real website offers. Good riddance, start taking the other crap away, too.

Incorrect. It is just that DirecTV is most likely not seeing enough user metrics for use. I would not be surprised if the Pandora app leaves, along with DLNA connectivity.

Streaming devices are cheap these days. I have a Smart TV in one bedroom, another has a Roku Stick and the front room has a Amazon Fire TV box & Blu-Ray player with streaming capabilities.

The problem is that DirecTV is not able to utilize the Miracast features that streaming devices are capable of doing.

NOT INCORRECT.......

I have Roku devices that have a legacy YouTube App that works better (in my opinion) than the newer YouTube app.

These devices are also no longer being supported. So, it is not just a DirecTv metrics thing.

There are multiple platforms that are being left out in the cold in favor of something else. The future is yet to be seen as to what they might have in mind.

I don't know why it isn't working for you, but Youtube is working on all my devices, including my HR44.
YouTube will keep working until they (YouTube) shuts the API down. This is being done in phases, but most likely at the end of may, all devices will stop working. They first thing you will see disappearing for the YouTube in DirecTV are the YT searches.

With all do respect, the Youtube search on DirecTV sucks. I prefer to do it on my Smart TV and my TiVo Roamio. If Youtube stays on those, I wouldn't know the difference.

There was a YouTube app on the Directv receivers? lol.....why?
Yup, been there for a year or so.
I rarely ever use it, but it's there.
As for Why ?
Because they could ... If thats your only way to get youtube to your TV, it's very handy.
Not everyone has addl streaming devices hooked up to their TV's or care to invest in more to do that type of thing, for those, it works fine.

Smart phone + Sony Smart TV = MUCH faster than the Directv app, and more complete. It's faster to search on my phone, press the little thing in the corner, TV and Denon switch to appropriate input... You Tube on TV. Takes less than 10 seconds. When I close the app on my phone, the TV switches back to the Denon input. Sometimes the Denon goes back, but usually I have to press the "cable/satellite" button. The app is slow and, like I said earlier, the D* app searches yield much fewer results than my phone.

To appease the masses and stay competitive. Nowadays it seems as folks are willing to give up functionality over comfort. I never liked the YouTube app on DIRECTV®, first typing was a chore, is a treat to type with a physical keyboard. PCs, Macs, Smartphones, tablets produce results much faster and the UI is just that much better.
