Official Date Hopper 3 and 4k Joey - January 28th

Otherwise what would they do with all the returns they will probably see?

Just saw a release for retailers about the Hopper 3. It will retail for $350.

Dish is saying that they are releasing the Joey 2 along with the Hopper 3. I think we have covered this enough on here that it is the same faster Joey that has been out for a while but with a new name.

The Joey 2, 4K Joey and Wireless Joey are the only Joeys compatible with the Hopper 3.
When doing an upgrade all wired Joeys must be replaces unless they are on of the above mentioned.

The Hopper 3 is not compatible with the Joey 1, Virtual Joey or Super Joey.

The 4K Joey will retail for $149. When singing up as a new customer the 4K Joey will require a $50 upfront fee. It will also cost $50 for existing customer to upgrade to it.

Good Info...that might be worth it's own new thread, as I don't think that's been covered anywhere else yet.

Looking like the "free if qualified" upgrade isn't going to be "free" since many wanting the H3 will also want the 4k Joey. Got everybody's hopes up when they said the word "free", we all knew better. Just like the H2 it will probably be a minimum $100-$200 upgrade for most.

Free for someone who doesn't already have a Hopper system.
That's more realistic.
Dish is a business, they aren't going to swap out thousands of Hopper 2s for hopper 3s for free.
I knew better then to take that claim to the bank.

Not a problem for single tv homes. Should be free for us

No existing customer should ever expect a truly "free" upgrade since there is always a tech visit fee. As for people getting a Hopper 3 and a 4K Joey, why? How many people have two 4K TVs? I'm not going to get a 4K Joey just because it's the newest unless I felt that I really needed to have PIP on a second TV. I think a Hopper and Joey 2 receivers are going to fit most people's needs.

I have a "Super Joey." Is this the same thing as the Joey 2?
The Super Joey is NOT compatible with the Hopper 3. If you think about it, it would put you over the current 16 tuner limit of the DPH LNB.

I would hope that DISH would offer some sort of credit towards a compatible Joey as there are probably quite a few who could make use of a Super Joey.

It seems odd that the Virtual Joey isn't compatible. Probably the same reason a Joey 1 won't work with a CAT5 connection.

The virtual Joey has been discontinued completely. Effective September 24th, 2015 the Virtual Joey was no longer made available to new customers or existing customers that do not have it active. The app is no longer available on the devices it once was.
