the "I now have a hopper 3 and I have questions" thread

Not true. As just one example, on my old H1/J1/J1 system, if one made guide changes on the H1, those changes carried over to the J1s automatically. Now, for example, I created a custom "HD only" guide in the H3, but that guide IS NOT visible in the J4K or the J2!! So, essentially, I have to do three times the work because now I have to set up the same custom guide in all three boxes.

I don't mind it and in fact I like it. A lot of times each TV has a different viewer and they have different preferences.

I just set my preferences on each receiver when I installed them. It was just part of the initial set up for me. It's also only a one time deal so I don't see it being a nuisance.

Hall - where is the option to copy the guide settings on the J2 or J4K? If there is one, I must have missed it.
Sorry, I confused the option to copy parental controls to other receivers. Well, it partially applies - I block the shopping channels, etc, etc, turn on the adult-programming block and some other things and those cover what I meant.

Backup settings to the remote. Pair the remote to the Joeys and restore settings. Be sure to unpair after you're done though.

Holy Christ - I didn't even know you could back up settings to the remote. So, you're saying I copy the remote settings to the H3 52.0, then pair that 52.0 to the J4K and copy the settings to the J4k, then unpair it and take it to teh J2, copy the settings then unpair it again? Then I have to go back and re-pair the J4K to the 40.0 and the J2 to its original 52.0?

I appreciate the help with this Patrick, but I think that DISH made a stupid f**king workaround here. Why not just let the Joeys copy settings from the H3 over MoCA? LOL

Hall - yes, I was pretty sure that were was no way to actually just copy a Custom Guide over cuz I spent about 15 minutes trying! I was desperate for anything rather than go through those 800 or so keypunches again for each box! LOL

That might work, but it would also restore other settings that you don't want set.

A particular example:

We have a large Family Room that is also in line of sight of the kitchen.
My wife uses a Joey in the Kitchen to watch her shows while shes there.
I use my H3, in the Family Room, with my Harmony One IR remote so I have IR turned on with the Hopper 3.

If IR were on for the Kitchen Joey, when I changed channels or put up a guide in the Family Room the Kitchen Joey would pick up that command as well. So in the Kitchen I have IR turned off and just use the UHF 52.0 (paired) remote for her to control it.

So backing up a remote just to move over favorites or guide settings, un-pairing, re-pairing and restoring, will wipe out all the other local custom settings as well and now I have a Joey in the Kitchen with IR turned on wondering why it's acting flaky.

Just switched from Directv. Like hopper3 so far, but how do you stop play back while watching a recorded show?

Just enter any random channel number. If it's not in your lineup the Hopper will go to the first one after that number. But playback stops at that point. In the old Hopper, you could hit Pause and then switch channels and when you resumed it it would ask you at which point on which other Hopper or Joey would you like to continue. But if you just want to stop playback just change the channel.

You can't just stop play back and return to the channel that you were on? Seems dumb to remove stop button.

It worked for me.

Alright. now that I have been playing with the system for a bit, I still can't find the PIP fuctions on the 52.0 remote and they are not explained anywhere in teh documenation. How the f**k do I do PIP with the 52.0 remote? LOL

LOl - of course, I'm using the H3. I was a Day One adopter of the H1, so I am somewhat familiar with how to diagnose problems with STB's! :).

The bottom line is that I have no visible PIP options that I can see.
Okay just trying to help here. Some people have been trying to do it on the Joeys and they don't support it. When I get home I will look to see how I did it if no one else chimes in by then.

On further examination, I went and checked my Joey 4K and pushed the PIP button on the 40.0 that came with that box and I get message box saying "This is not an active feature". Is PIP supposed to work on the Joey 4K?

Press Options, you'll see PIP on the lower left...
