Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

This statement just made your opinions on picture quality irrelevant. Not trying to be rude, just trying to be clear.

Sorry if your's don't look as good. Silly me for believing what I see with my own 2 eyes over what's posted on the internet. LOL

Sounds like a whole lot of opinions based on perception here.

That's for sure, because if I remember one of your previous posts you said:

As for those that say the PQ is much better on the Hopper 3 compared to the HWS, I really don't think there is. If there is a difference it's pretty small. I remember when people thought the Hopper had a much better picture than the 722 but it didn't.

So you think basically the picture from the 722 looks the same as the H3? If so I'd call that a definite perception problem.

I won't say that because I haven't seen the 722k side by side with the Hopper 3. In fact I haven't seen the Hopper 3 side by side with anything but I have seen the Hopper 1 right next to the 722k in my showroom and I saw no difference.

When I went from the Hopper 1 to the Hopper 2 and then to the Hopper 3 I can't say I really say a huge difference in overall PQ with programming. It's all perception. I'm not saying either one of us is right. If I saw the Hopper 2 and Hopper 3 side by side then I would tell you what I knew for sure but I can't. At this point right now all I can say is, I really don't care. I'm happy with my setup now and I was happy with my setup before. I've always been happy with my PQ with Dish.

The only reason I comment on the differences is that I currently have a H2 and H3's here and I can compare. I have compared 722's and Hoppers in the past and I clearly remember the differences.

On some of what you posted we can agree. I am very, very happy with my DISH equipment and picture quality and always have been. I think the H3 is incredible.

If you actually have a Hopper 2 and Hopper 3 side by side then I will trust your judgement since I can't do my own comparison.

I posted this earlier in this thread. Guess you must have missed it. Took it this morning just so folks like you would be convinced I wasn't lying. Nice huh. 45 tuners in that one stack.

So should I believe my eyes or your internet eyes? There's a great big world out there, everyone sees thing differently, your opinion is your own, just because you don't agree with others doesn't make your opinion fact.

To sum up your posts in this thread:

Mine good, yours can't be bad.

No, to sum up my message: Mine is good and if you think your's isn't and you've tried every single option to change it, then it is what it is. Time to move on.

You saw that. :)

It's hooked up to a 12ft Paraclipse and mainly does the driving for the DVB. Not much on 4DTV any more. :(
When I got my 10', I threw away all the antiquated boxes that came with it. I have too many "junk toys" the way it is.

I love junk toys. :) Still have the 12ft Paraclipse and a 10ft Perfect10 running. Scrapped the other 2 we once had and replaced them with a farm of DISH, DirecTV, Exede, HughesNet and other assorted antennas. Since the H3's I now have 4 separate K2 EA dishes.

The Hopper 3 picture is fine, in fact it's more than fine, it's fantastic. Like I said before it's sharper than the old UI and it displays differently. As long as you don't get right on top of your 55in or larger TV it looks fantastic. Everybody I've installed Hopper 3's for immediately remark how much better the picture is, even the customer today who was upgrading from a Genie. :)

FYI, when the new UI is downloaded to the HWS or Hopper 2 it will have the same picture as the Hopper 3.

Are you talking about the PQ of the UI or content on the HWS with the new carbon UI??
Gerry

Both really, but specifically the picture quality of the audio and video.

I haven't heard much recently on the update to Carbon for the HWS since the fiasco with folks downloading it by brute force and having problems ;). I'm not sure whether I look forward to it or not. I believe it puts back the banner at bottom of guide and you have no option to get rid of it! That was one of the first things I did after installing the HWS a month ago. It drove me nuts in all of the 2 days I had it before removal :(. But if PQ is indeed better, then I might have to just suck it up!

One thing that may cause a little degradation of PQ is that when my Hopper 3 was installed there was an overscan that caused a bit of the guide to be off screen. Setting the picture size on the Hopper with the circles fixed it. But wait, that's not right with a 1080p or 4k display. I went to the picture menu on the Samsung 4k TV and found the "fit to screen" (pixel for pixel or the equivalent on other brands) setting needed to be reset to on. Now the picture is as sharp as can be and the Hopper "circles" no longer work, as they are not necessary. Check all of your TV settings before complaining. (I understand that may be not the OP's problem.)

IMHO the banner on the new UI is not as bad as the one on the old UI. I don't even notice it on the new one anymore. :)

The PQ with the new software and UI is very, very good.
