I heard that if you use your iPhone as a hot spot to stream directv on a wi-fi only iPad, that will not be free data? Can anyone confirm this?

I cannot say for certain but I doubt it is allowed. Mobile hotspot is not included in the unlimited data plan so I would imagine that's the case here.

But you don't need the unlimited data plan to get the unmetered streaming of DIRECTV content.

But if you go over your allotted data whether it be 15 megs or unlimited which is technically 22 I believe, AT&T will throttle your data and you will not have access to DirecTV streaming. I read this somewhere in the last couple days. I'll see if I can find it

Not according to this press release, http://about.att.com/story/watch_it_anywhere_with_att_directv.html. Wouldn't make sense to tell people that you can stream DIRECTV content via cellular data but if you hit a limit you can't. What you say is true for regular data usage, not this new service.

It was not in that article. I found it somewhere else. I agree with you that it doesn't make sense right? But I assure you, I read it and reread it several times.

I turned on the hot spot on my iPhone and the connected my iPad to there so I was using cellular. Started up a streaming session and let it run for a while. I then looked at my AT&T account and the usage for regular data stayed the same but the usage for the sponsored data went up. So yes you can use a WiFi only iPad via a iPhone hotspot to stream DIRECTV and not have it go against your data usage.

That is definitely good to hear. I have not been able to find where I saw that information that I mentioned in an earlier post. I was drinking that day, so maybe the words were blurry. If I do find it, I will post it here.

I'm not sure why they say you can't use the Cell phone hot spot with a tablet ...
I was playing around at the lake last week and it worked fine.

Also don't know why they won't allow ipads/tablets on the unlimited plan.
Makes no sense.

Has anyone seen this "Bonus data" from AT&T. Apparently I received it because I used Data Free TV....Anyone have anymore details on this??

Yes but in a different way, when I look at my usage it "Sponsored Data", at least it was generated once I started using the new DIRECTV app for streaming.

Right. I have sponsored data as well which tells me the amount of data that I have used to stream DirecTV through the app without actually using any of my data.

But this bonus data as a ATT refers to it is actually crediting my plan .29 MB in this case. They are actually giving me data rather than only not charging me data for streaming. It's two separate line items on the app but I couldn't fit it in one picture.
