New to KU-Band FTA

Don't worry about blind scanning yet. Go into your receiver and of course make sure the LO set right for your LNBF which I think it is as you were getting signals with the dish fixed.
Anyway go in and select transponder 12122 H 20000, under Galaxy 19 at 97W. If that is not in there manually put it in.
Then go back and follow my instructions above on moving slowly left and right until you hit a signal. No signal raise dish elevation a deg and sweep again.
This all is assuming you have a good LOS to the bird at 97W. There is no need to be blind scanning at this point.

Also give me a detail of what you have done all morning a upload some new pics of your dish settings.

SIDE NOTE: 95W is Ku and C-Band. If you decide to use 95W instead of 97W go to Galaxy 3C in your receiver(95W) and select transponder 11780 H 20760. If it is not there again enter the information for it manually.

If I go to g19 I have nothing. I guess the thing to do now is to move the dish to its permeates location and see of I can still get press tv from.the new location

Press TV is on Galaxy 19 at 97W, not Galaxy 3 at 95W. You have your LNB frequency set wrong if you're getting it at 10595 though. First fix your LNB frequency so that you're seeing all the transponders you should be seeing. Second, if you want to use Press TV for alignment, set your receiver to Galaxy 19, 11960 V 22000. Then, after the motor has rotated the dish to where it thinks Galaxy 19 is, rotate the motor mount on the pole and/or adjust the dish elevation (not the motor elevation) til you get signal back on Press TV. Then you should be able to tell the motor to go to any other satellite, assuming the pole is straight.

Ohhh... why not the motor elevation? It seems more accurate. I haven't moved the dish elevation all day.

Finally some pictures. Sorry. use.com was not working well this morning and I gave up- Here is what I have. I've always used the universal 3 setting for this lnb. Is this ok?

So now I have the same problem I have before where the receiver resets while the motor is moving. What's going on here?

Ok got everything set but I guess I need a new receiver because the x2 m1 is known to reboot randomly I'm seeing. Any suggestions on a better receiver that doesn't reboot when changing satellites?

I had the same issue with certain X2 receivers. It moved my c band dish just fine because it was sending the move command to a Vbox7, which did the actual dish moving. When I tried to use it for KU with USALS and a Stab HH100 it would work ok for short moves, say from 87W to 97W, but long moves would reset the box. There was an overheating issue on at least some of the X2 M1HD's (more here) to the point that I had to add a fan to my mine. Perhaps yours is overheating and resetting to protect itself. The only real solution I found was to use a different receiver. :(

What receiver are you using? Any issues with it? Mine does get very hot. I should put a fan on it.

If you a looking for a low cost receiver the V8 Super has good reviews: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FTA-HD-1080...-Support-3G-Dongle-WiFi-Youtube-/272281873910. There are a few other sellers who may have it cheaper but I believe most have dealt with this one when purchasing from eBay. Others with good reviews to consider: Manhattan DJ-1997 or Linkbox 9000i (Sat) or Linkbox 9000i Local (Sat & ATSC tuner). http://hypermegasat.com/Receivers.html

I still haven't had a chance to mess with my V8 Super so currently using an Amiko Mini HD SE (no longer made, great receiver), Amiko A3 (works ok for fta but other features act up for me), FreeSat V7 (locks up once in a while but power off/on fixes), Digiwave HD9008i (no motor control but stable operation). As to your X2 receiver, yes adding a fan may help. You don't have to open yours up and add one internally like I did. You can just set a PC fan on top over the vent so that it can pull cool air in the bottom of the case and expel heat out the top. :)

Yep, like others have said that receiver does not do well with USALS.
It just can't provide the current, to move a motor.
The Linkbox 9000i is a good receiver.

For the M1 HD, I drilled 6 holes in the top of the cabinet using a 1/4" bit to provide more ventilation in the power supply area and 2 in the area above the CPU, and also 2 in the bottom of the cabinet under the power supply area. This seems to provide more air passage through the cabinet and the unit seems to remain more stable. I am using one 24/7 to feed a modulator, so heat build-up would be easily noticed. Good Luck!

I just took a ordinary room fan and set it blowing on the receiver. It's nice and cool and hasn't rebooted at all since! Thanks again for everybodys help here today. This was a rather frustrating process, but now that I've done it once i can easily duplicate it. I just had a few errors here and there, and unfortunately if everything isnt just perfect it doesnt work. So now my question is what are some good satellites for news feeds besides nbc at 103w?

I've enjoyed reading this thread. Like the original poster, I'm new to FTA after having been a DTV sub for 10+ years. Started using a re-purposed WildBlue/ViaSat dish for a few months and now have a GeoSatPro 90cm to assemble and mount up. Had to order a HH90 for that as I couldn't figure out how to mount the GSP to the HH120 i currently was using with the WildBlue dish. Looks like i'll have 2 Ku dishs to play with soon. Tomorrow's plan is to plant a new post for the GSP.

Interesting read kubandfta !
