So I have a Denon X-1000, nothing fancy, not bottom of the barrel of Denon but it is for its series. So I've had it since about the time the AVR launched with no issues and been very pleased only having $450 in it. Here's my question and before anybody says anything, I know it's the wrong thread to ask but I trust most of the people in the DTV forum. I was able to land one of the new Nintendo classics (waited in line 3 hours while my wife made fun of me). When connecting it to the AVR the picture will be fine then maybe 30 seconds or even 2 minutes later the screen goes black and then comes back like the receiver is changing inputs. I connect the Nintendo to the tv and bypass the Denon and all is well, moved it to another room and all is well there too. Any ideas what's causing he Denon to be dumb when the Nintendo is connected?

Btw, who ever thought we'd be talking about 8-bit games on the internet?

I've wondered that too but it comes right back on and the firmware on the Denon is up to date. It's connected to the internet and I started thinking that so checked for an update and it was up to date already.

It sounds to me like a resolution issue. Are the gaming device, your TV, and your Denon all set to the same resolution? I ask this, because the Denon seems to be trying to sort out what it is receiving and what Resolution it should be kicking out to your tv.

Yes, I have everything set to 720. It's a 4K tv but I feel like 720 gives a better picture than 1080 does and I don't have 4K services anyways. But that's exactly what the Denon seems to be doing.

Crappy HDMI cable. I have this issue on one of my Denon's. There is a 30ft run from the Denon to the TV. I used a crappy no-name chineese junk HDMI cable and I had the exact same thing. It would go out, and then come back, etc. I replaced it with a monster cable brand, and problem went away. Interestingly enough, it only happened when I was using my DVD player, not using the DirecTV receiver. But the issue was the cable from the AVR to TV. It could just be a cumulative result of crappy cables, but I started with that one since it was very long. I have tons of AV equipment in my house. 3 Denon AVR's, 9 AV zones, 11 Sonos zones, so I have had my share of these experiences. I am not saying to always buy the expensive brand, but sometimes the really cheap brand is crap. Last year Home Depot had HDMI cables on sales for black friday. It was package that contained 2 cables, and a 90 degree HDMI angle adapter. I think it copst like $10. The cables were total crap. Half of them, the picture would constantly cut out and come back.

I always get HDMI cables from monoprice. Great quality, good prices.

I know it's not the HDMI, I've swapped it same problem. I also tried running the same cable to the tv. Worked just fine. It's something with the way the Nintendo is sending the signal to the Denon.

Monoprice for the win! I buy way too much off of there
