Thanks in advance for taking a look at this for me.

I have been a Dish Network customer since 2012 when the first Hopper system came out. I was interested in upgrading to the Hopper 3 system upon its release, but it appears that I would have to pay substantial fees in order to do so based on several discussions via chat with Dish Network (i.e. - several hundred dollars).

I know when the Hopper 3 first came out that it would be available for existing customers as a free upgrade for those that qualify. I am on AutoPay and have paid my bill on time since I joined. Meanwhile, the original Hopper system is starting to become non-responsive and slow. I can't reason paying for several hundred dollars for an upgrade when it might just be better to transition service to another carrier that will provide me updated equipment for free.

I enjoy the Dish Network service, so I want to explore what options might be available to me. What would be the best way to upgrade to a Hopper 3?

Again, thank you for your time and attention.

You can contact Dirt... or say cancel at the prompts on the phone.

I had the fee waived, so all I really had to do was add the protection plan, have my DVR fee upped from $12 to $15 (which is standard), and pay the $10 for the on-site visit by the technician.

I'm sure some of it may have to do with account status like KAB was saying, but that was it in my case.

Was adding the protection plan relevant to them waiving the fee?

I don't think it was relevant to the fee being waived. It was, however, relevant to the technician visit.

My understanding is that if you don't have the protection plan, any technician visit is automatically a much higher charge (I think it's $95).

My fee was waived and no install fee without PP.

I've been quoted prices from $50 - $210.
My upgrade was at a price that really couldn't be beat. It was certainly an easy decision, put it that way !

and whether you have the protection plan.

The install fee was $95 or free (or maybe $10) if you have the protection plan. Didn't matter if you were already carrying the protection plan either - simply add it, then do the upgrade and it falls into place.

That's pretty good.

I probably could have argued the PP and the install fee. I think I was just shocked after my experiences that they were going to waive the upgrade fee at all. I had gotten quoted as much as $400 (depending on who I got on the phone and/or chat and time of year).

DIRT is definitely the way to go if anyone is interested in an upgrade and they're having problems with phone / chat support. I'm sure account history dictates what type of deal for which people are eligible, but the reps on the phone and chat seemingly can't wait to tack on fees.

I've been with Dish for 14 years. That has it's benefits.

That almost certainly helps.

I was with DirecTV for just about that amount of time before I switched to Dish four years ago. All that seemingly got me with DirectTV was a call with a retention specialist who basically dared me to switch.

I'm glad to see Dish doesn't seemingly have the same practices.

Well I took the H3 Plunge, This time Im going to do it, NO REALLY.

No charge except Protection plan.
No price lock allowed until my current offer expires, which is $27 off for 10 more months anyway.

Staying away from 4K joeys for now, went with Joey 2.0s since Netflix is important on the Hopper for 3 out of 4 family members.

I put my Upgrade date off until December 28th just so everyone can View what they want until then, and I can take down my special 1000.5 dish, so the tech doesn't take it.

Bill is going up a little but, i can off set that with premium reduction.
