Does anyone have HDMI-CEC working on a Denon AVR-2113?

I am connected to an LG TV which supposedly supports it (I am assuming it should work when the TV is on Monitor OUT) .. AND a DirectTV HR-54 which says it supports it.

I have the power control enabled in the Denon settings.. but am unable to get the Denon to act based on either device powering on/off. I have tried disabling the control from the TV in case that was confusing things.

I've tried 3 different HDMI cables (can the cables be too old to support it?). I've also tried moving the connection from the DVR to both CBL/SAT and DVD (in case 1 input was unwilling to support it).

At this point I'm stumped.

Unfortunately the DTV remote will only power control 2 devices (the TV and the DVR).. it assumes the "audio device" can only be powered on/off via HDMI-CEC... this was a poor assumption (IMO) (the Dish remotes can handle (?) devices).

I have the Genie remotes.. and/or is there a different (older?) remote I could use which would support this?

EDIT: to be clear.. what I want is for the "ON" (and "OFF") buttons to turn on/off TV+HR54+Denon... currently they only control TV+DVR. On my Genie client, the HDMI-CEC does seem to be working (AVR-1713)

EDIT2: correction... on the AVR1713 + Genie Client, only "OFF" works, not "ON"

EDIT3: and for everyone who simply says "go get a Harmony".. I have never found one I liked... too many "tech support" calls from the family when they don't point the remote correctly and only 2 of the 3 devices receive the sequence.

EDIT4: it appears I might be able to use an RC66X? Similar to the Dish remote, I would have to change to the AV1, hit power, and switch back.. but that is a process everyone in the house seems to be able to do :) alas the backlit version of the 66, appears to be slightly more rare than unicorn dust :( .. but maybe its not RF?

EDIT5: It looks like the RC66RX will fit the need. Anyone know how to find a backlit version for less than the $2k price on Amazon ? :)

I have a Denon S700W, Samsung TV and a Directv HR44 receiver, and HDMI-CEC works, most of the time. As long as you can turn on the TV and the Directv receiver with the Directv remote, you should be OK. The HDMI communication is between the Denon and the TV, the Directv receiver has nothing to do with this.

I do have an RC66X remote so I could programmed the Denon receiver for AV1 and I do have to use it from time to time because like I said, HDMI-CEC works most of the time but not all of the time. I unplugged power from the Denon AV, plug it back in after 5-10 minutes and it starts working again.

Settings on the Denon AV are:

HDMI setup
HDMI Control: On
Pass Source: CBL/SAT
TV Audio Switch: OFF
Pow. Off Control: All

On the Samsung TV

Anynet HDMI-CEC: On
Auto Turn OFF: Yes

Good luck, HDMI-CEC is hit and miss....

Ok that is helpful.. ie. that appears to narrow the debug to the LG(TV) <> Denon connection. I had been trying cables between the DVR and Denon instead... but the HR54 does have an HMDI-CEC setting.. are you saying that it is the "client" (just as the Denon would be) and the TV is the "master" ?

Google seems to suggest HDMI-CEC was added in 1.2a?... which was 2005.. I have a ~15' cable from Denon to TV.. bought in ~2010... I certainly didn't check the version when I bought it.. but I suppose there is a chance it doesn't work. Kinda hate to randomly go purchase a new cable which might not work either.

LG calls their stuff "Simplink"... I had previously tried ARC without success, so that may be a clue.

Stinks that the new remotes rely on such a flaky protocol... is the customer base with TV + DVR + AVR really that small? I do have a (powered) speaker bar on a different TV (as such this wouldn't be an issue.. it powers down smartly).. but I can't see that working in a location where I also want so many other AVR functions available (and use the AVR for the speakers)

thanks
Mike

Monoprice.com for your cables needs. I would focus on the connection between the TV and the Denon. Replace that cable and let's see what happens.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the SatelliteGuys app!

I had a spare (I would have thought much older) HDMI cable which was long enough (12').. I swapped out the cable between TV and AVR and now life is good.

The simple Genie remote powers on/off TV + DVR + AVR.

and as a bonus, ARC is finally working for me too (TV->AVR)

thanks for the help!
